Electrostatic discharge from a vacuum has the potential of destroying electronic components. That’s the same reason people who do electronics work wear ESD straps, and that’s just for discharges from their clothes let alone a vacuum that builds up huge amounts of static. Have seen it happen.
The entire housing on the blower I bought is ABS so I’m good.
When cleaning your shield, another helpful thing to do is verify that the SoC cooling blower fan is still working. Without removing the top chassis, you should be able to hear the blower when the unit is on and running (especially of you have your fan set on high in settings).
These fans, like pc case fans or card fans can fail and in instances, pretty prematurely.
If you’re like me, and open up the case, you can safely plug in your power cord and visually verify if the fan is spinning while the unit is on.
Amazon and ebay sells replacement blowers for the shield models. They run about $20-$30 if you need to replace one.

Well I got my little blower to clean my Shield after 8 months of use. I took out the two little screws and then spent about 15 minutes trying to remove the cover, I didn’t want to break it. Man that wasn’t easy. Finally got my knife out and managed to pry the case off by applying pressure to slide the case down and pop the tabs. Scarey stuff. Only to find out there was’t any dust worth worrying about. Done.
Removing the cover will be increasingly easier with subsequent removals.
It must be nice to have all that clean air up there among the maple leafs. 
. Either that or you have a good, filtered return air system in the house.
Living in the US Midwest, in the middle of steel mills, no country fresh clean air, and a house full of cats - if I waited 8 months, it’d look pretty ugly in my shield.
Most of the time I was in Mexico, ocean and beach close by. Biggest issue was the oily black coating we’d get on everything. We guessed it came from the jet fuel over the bay. Only been back in Canada for 2 months. The days were around 110°F with humidex. Never any heat related issues though. I was amazed how little dust was inside. I stand it up vertical and not laid flat. No idea if that made any difference.
When you have it apart, it’s a good time to verify if the cpu cooler fan is working properly. Just plug it in and fire it up - visually verify that the blower wheel is actually working.
Worst case - you’re shield internals are not dusty because your blower isn’t working to bringing any external air through the intake. 
I’m sure it’s best case in your case.
Miki, is this the blower that you bought (or similar)? UGH! the link on the Amazon page didn’t work. Anyhow, could you share the details for blower that you bought, please?

Hey that’s a good price. It’s a powerful little unit, and you’re right. Getting the shield cover off is not easy. It’s suppose to slide open by pushing up on the vent bulge while holding the led light side.

Gosh, I’ve been a Patron for several months now.
So my reason for rereading this post was my Shield Pro seems to be having some issues with the wifi. It sits right next to my Cube which is not exhibiting any wifi issues when I change back and forth. It’s been inconsistent, though. So I’m thinking that the first step would be to pull it apart and do some cleaning. Even if that doesn’t fix it, I certain that it wouldn’t hurt.
