New MECOOL Update Brings Android 14 to Popular Devices

There are two things I would try

The first option would be to see if you can successfully connect via an ethernet cable, this should allow the network stack to fully initialise - you may then find that disconnecting the ethernet cable will enable WiFi (no guarantees but it’s worth a go)

The second option is a factory reset, if that fixes it you’ll just have to reinstall all apps so worth taking photos of setting pages for anything awkward.

Did hook up ethernet. That got me online so I disconnected it hoping it would trigger wifi. No such luck. Haven’t tried reset yet; hoping Mecool responds to CS request

Ah well, it was worth worth trying - on the upside, it means that the box isn’t just a ‘paperweight’ and, while you’re waiting for a response from CS, you’ll be able to use it with a wired connection

Kodi 21.3 is out now - from my initial testing it seems more stable under Android 14. People might want to see if it fixes the issue with the Add-Ons button (I never really had the problem, perhaps because I never had anything in Add-Ons before the Android 14 upgrade)

Mecool support had me remove SD card and any USB devices. Wifi connected but disconnected as soon as I reinstalled USB and SD card. I let them know and they’re working on it

I have both the original nvidia shield on one setup and the Mecool km2 plus on another. I have no problems uploading file from my PC to the nvidia shield with an external SS Samsung hard drive or deleting files directly from Kody 21.2.

The Mecool is another story. Originally I could not do either - upload files from my PC or delete file directly on Kodi. However, after the previous update I was able to do both using winSCP on my PC and Mixplorer on the Mecool with Kody 20.5.

With the last update I again cannot upload files from my PC or delete any files in Kody directly. I assume the permissions are again stricter now.

I am still able to connect my external hard drive directly to my PC to copy or delete any files.

Anyone have any solutions?

I know that there are some on Android 14 that don’t have KODI issues, but those of us with the MECOOL boxes are still needing to fight the good fight. After my MECOOL KM2 Plus Deluxe automatically updated to Android 14, KODI was toast. I had to uninstall, then install version 19.5 and turn off auto updates within the Google Play Store. That worked (at least for me). I also turned off auto updates in my MECOOL KM2 box (running Android 12) as KODI 21.2 was working fine. Long story short, turning off Google Play auto updates doesn’t prevent MECOOL from pushing the Android 14 update. A few days ago my KM2 box updated, so had to revert back to KODI 19.5 on that box as well. I tried KODI ver 21.3, but it failed in the same manner as ver 21.2. Android 14 sux!

This is the best solution for me. Thanks :ok_hand: :+1:

Removing the add-on button

After the android 14 update my KM2 with the SD card in place has issues, freezes, etc.

Apparently there is a file that you can load to fix the issue, however I cannot find an active link that provides the file, & so far crickets from MeCool. Anyone have an active link? Thanks in advance.

Finally was able to download & try that file, without success - still freezes with SD card. Had to do a factory reset & everything after reloading works except can’t use the SD card. MeCool finally responded & apparently they are working on a firmware update to address the issue. When? Who knows.

That file was for stuck on android boot logo only. The SD card issue is being worked on caused by 14 update.

Finally got an update from Mecool appears to have fixed the problem.

Does the file including fixing Kodi being able to have a working addon menu? If so, where can one get it? Thanks…

As it’s been reported on a number of devices, the add-on menu crash appears to be an issue with Kodi running on Android 14 rather than a MeCool problem.

I don’t use Kodi so IDK if it fixes that.

It doesn’t happen on all devices but there are reports of it happening on a number of different brands

e.g. [BUG] Ugoos SK2 – Android TV 14 breaks Kodi (ABI + UI crash) | XDA Forums

I don’t know that I would call it a “crash”, but both my AM9 and ONN 4k Pro just shut off and power the TV down. This seems to be most prevalent with SmartTube and TisenTube. but this issue does does occur on Kodi, also. Both are Android 14.

Interestingly there are absolutely no such issues with my Nvidia Pro which if I recall doesn’t use pure Android OS
