New MECOOL Update Brings Android 14 to Popular Devices

Apparently the Android 14 is causing issues on multiple devices with the latest Kodi and reverting back to 19.5 resolves those issues.

Hmmm Gotcha. Using the ONN 4K Pro and have had Android 14 for months using KODI zero issues but I understand other devices might have different issues. Really didn’t think any addons worked on 19 anymore but good to know they do

Works well with WIFI

Thanks, but signal weak and I have the ethernet connection

Right on, these so-called Android devices are not able to work properly for several apps. I switched to ONN 4K, and they outperform every MeCool streamer I have ever owned. I have 4 old MeCool devices waiting to be given away.

I also uploaded to os14 on my mecool device. Then problems started. My main concern was that all movie apps I added through diggz repo did not play in 4k or 1080 but only 720 and lower. I spent close to 8 hrs trying to figure what was wrong. I finally went into each movie app and found settings for video was set to 720 and below. I went into each settings on each movie app and deleted 720 and below and reset all apps to 4k and 1080 only. Now it. Works perfectly. The mistake is in update not setting movies to 4k and 1080 curious if anybody has or had this same problem

Try not using the side menu in Kodi and go into the System settings and then to Add-ons, then to video addons, this will keep Kodi 21.3 from crashing using a Mecool box with Android 14, it is not the best solution but it keeps Kodi from crashing.

I have a KM3 and they have never updated that device since I’ve had almost 4 years now, not sure if the KM3 would get this update but honestly I don’t think I’d even try it even if it did. Mecool never updates now they are updating sounds like a recipe for disaster!!!

This is exactly how my KM2 acted after the update to Android 14. I hover over Add-Ons in Kodi, and it crashes to the home screen. I tried Kodi20.5 (TP fork), same result as Kodi21.2. It clearly is a compatibility issue, which is frustrating. I downloaded Kodi19.5 fork, and it at least didn’t crash, but I haven’t tried to put Umbrella on there and see how it runs.

Just remember that after you update to Kodi 19.5, you need to go into Google Play Store, click on your avatar in the upper right corner, then turn OFF auto-updates, otherwise Kodi will auto-update back to 21.2 within 24 hours. Good Luck!

For those of you with Android 14 (it’s not just a MeCool issue) who are getting crashes with the Add-Ons button in later versions of Kodi, the workaround is to remove the Add-Ons button.

Go to Settings → Interface → Configure Skin → Main Menu items and deselect Add-Ons

This will stop the crashes, you can then save your add-ons in favourites. It may not be the most elegant solution but it works and allows you to use later versions of Kodi.

Great idea! I had not tried that or using another custom skin. Will give both a test. Thank you!

That is what I also had to do. With my Deluxe model and 14. I wonder if a different skin would change things. Everything else but Kodi works fine. Maybe Kodi itself has an upgrade to fix it?

Thank you, Thunder pants. Works great.

The product (MeCool streamer) is inferior when compared to the ONN 4K pro. To fix your problem, perform a factory reset. This should clear all OS updates, but also delete your apps. Alternatively, consider going to Walmart and ordering a new ONN 4K Pro. OK I have gone thru 4 MeCool upgrades and have given up as they never completed providing the proper Android System for the MeCool I paid $80 for. I will not try another release. I’m done.

I will also never purchase another MeCool product.

Ran update on Mecool KM2. Wi-fi won’t connect and can find any work around. Box is now a paper weight. Anyone else have thus issue and fixed it?

Try going into your wifi settings and forget the connection, then scan and choose your connection and log back in. First I might try a complete power cycle. Disconnect everything from power for a few minutes. Then start with your router and let it complete it’s boot up and then plug TV back in, then your streaming device and see if it will connect.

Can’t get that far. After turning wifi on there are no options (and it doesn’t stay on). Did everything else. Tried downloading update and installing from USB. Didn’t work.
