I was setting up my fire TV stick 4K Max that I just received today. When side loading apps, such as Kodi or cinema free, the apps are running fine, but I am getting no app Icon. Just getting a gray box?..
In the past, one solution to the grey box was to go to manage applications - video - clear data. After doing that, soft reboot by going to settings - device - restart.
Let the stick reboot and give it a couple mins when back at the homescreen and see if icon image refreshes.
Not sure it that’s what current fix on newer gen devices would be the same.

Same issue with the new stick. Tried re-installing and downloading again.
I did as well. That did not work. My hope is that it is a bug that will be fixed with a software update soon.

I’d wait until they do an update to Fire OS 8 and fix the icon bug for sure. But reviews are not good. Seems the supposed improvements are not that useful unless you have the high end equipment to utilize them, like a 6e router and system capable of handling or using HDR or DV. if not then the older Max will do. Apparently tons more Amazon suggestions on the home screen will bother more ppl as well. The speed boosts are also very minimal apparently. Not sure I’ll even get one to test. I still have 6 Max in a drawer.

…why break a behavioral pattern at this point? Just keep adding to your Max collection - you’ve already crossed the Rubicon - no turning back now.
At this point I’ve programmed several hundreds, but once I received a 2019 Shield Pro I haven’t used my stick at all. I suspect it will have to be wiped and started and some major updating done.
I was hoping the new 4k Max with 16Gb memory would actually work… silly me!!!

Tried it also apps work no icon!!
Troy has a vid for the new Max. Also you can add sideload launcher that will didplay all the icons. Amazon will release a Fire TV OS 8 update to fix this but who knows when.
Side loader does work, but it’s Icon does not show.Lol
I’m just going to live with it for a while I guess. I only have three side loaded apps, so I know which ones are which…
