not missing much
Its a mecool km2 re-packaged with android 11 and added 8g storage.
If I remember when I fired up the KM2, adding a usb drive for added mem was easy. Think I upped mine to 16 Gig.
I think all boxes should have a min of 32g storage and 4g ram. I know 4g is a lot but its future proofing and no need to add anything unless you record lotsa stuff.
Couldn’t agree more Tx ! Just run so much better
I know what you mean by having a better price but the cheaper boxes usually run on stock android , have a chipset that overheats and comes with a crappy remote .
The km2 runs on Android TV, has the reliable amlogic proceasor ( X3 I believe ) and it has one of the best remote controls…gotta love voice search and having an Android settings button on the remote . Because of these features I didn’t mind paying 70 bucks a box .

The chipset is overheating becuase of crappy cooling soultions, cheap generic boxes will put in these roku/amalogic cpus but no heat sync or fan to cool them down. More expensive boxes typically have better heat management.
Sometime we mis-represent stock android and android tv. Stock does not necesarily mean cheap as it often just means doesnt play by the rules. Ugoos makes a top notch stock box with good parts. My UT-8 is a Rockchip that is very powerful, does not over heat 8 gb ram and 64 gb storage. There are tons of cheap android tv and stock boxes on the market.
Cheap boxes with the Rockchip processor always overhead for me . Its always better to pay a little more , like the mecool, and get a better user experience ![]()

That chipset is fine, it overheats in cheap boxes because of lack of cooling. I have/had several of them. I drilled holes in the plastic and setup tiny cpu fans which solved the issue.
My H96 max 8K had holes underneath …I ended up buying a USB Android tv box fan to sit below the box.
Exactly . If you have a KM2 there’s no reason to buy this since the km2 has 2 USB slots for expanded storage . The km6 only adds an additional 8 GB of storage. Hook up a 128 gb USB drive to your km2 and you’re ahead of the game. That being said, if you’re in need of a new tv box the km2 plus is a good choice ![]()

Heh Troy. Thanks again for all you do. Could you please let me know if the Mecool KM2 Plus will eliminate the buffering that I encounter with my 2 Firestick 4Ks. I am glad to see that The Mecool KM2 Plus incorporâtes Netflix and I only wish that the X5 would also incorporate it although it is no big problem to disconnect the x5 whenever I wish to watch Netflix on a Smart Tv.

Agree. If you use a box for streaming only, there is no point in overkill. 4 gb ram and 32 gb internal memory or better, android 9 or later with quad core processor and a good heat sink will do just great and last for years. I have a Buzz tv 4500xrs and a Ugoos AM6 B plus as streamers and they don’t miss a beat. Only thing I added out of abundance of caution is a usb switched cooling fan to each, as I want these devices to last a long time.
The best way to avoid buffering is to have a strong Wi-Fi signal or better yet, a hard wired LAN connection to your streaming device. Using your vpn connection will drop your download and upload speeds by about 50% so it is important to get as much speed as possible before connecting to your vpn. At a minimum, you should be getting download/upload speed readings of 40 plus/10 plus off the Analiti app while connected to your vpn. Use a good quality vpn service that doesn’t disconnect and maintains consistent download and upload speeds. Your streaming will never be better than the weakest link between your device, internet service and vpn. Keep this in mind when choosing your device and services.
There are now VPN services that actually help speed up your connection with new coding and tech. One of those is ProtonVPN. The only problem is, on streaming devices they still haven’t coded in access to all the functions like Ad blocking, malware blocking and tracking blocking, so while it does do a great job I can’t recommend it, but between the upcoming ipv6 protocols and new tech Buffering is becoming less and less. I rarely get any and have my best speeds over 5GHz wifi.
I use ExpressVPN, which is very stable and provides fast download/upload speeds on a consistent basis.
You’re one of the lucky ones Bill.
