Before I start my story, I know y’all will think, does he need ANOTHER box. Okay, well I don’t you would be right, and quit sounding like my wife, please. LMAO. Anyway, I was in a local bid site (we bought a baby thing anyway so I was making the trip to pickup), and was watching both working KM2 Plus and KM7 Plus boxes. Both boxes sold for $15, I bid that high (and won) on the KM2 Plus. Who got the better deal?

The baby naturally.

So, I had this weird issue on the KM2 Plus, where it would flash each menu I open up. As in, I would open settings, it would appear for a second, then disappear, then appear, etc. I put the box in the drawer for a while, but have been recently factory resetting and trying to pinpoint the issue. I thought it was a video or resolution issue. Then I thought maybe the HDMI cord or port was faulty. It ended up happening only when Developer Options was turned on. Someone online said to try and turn off D.O. when it “flashed” like that. So far after the last factory reset, it has worked flawlessly. Anyone ever heard of this strange issue? Why or how could the Developer Options setting being on cause this?

I know with the news of Mecool not shipping to the U.S., this article might not be as impactful. But some people may still use the KM2 Plus, so figured I would share.

I also thought a statement in this article (see attached below) was interesting, as it seems like their may be OTA updates to Android TV 14? My biggest complaint about the KM6 Deluxe box is that it is on Android 10 and it has no feature to link your remote and control your tv with it. Wish that box was on this list, but thought it was a cool thought anyway.

FYI also, I asked if the above future updates might be in plans for the KM6 Deluxe, and this is what they said:

“Sorry, KM6 currently has no plans to update the Android system.”

I just am realizing my KM2 plus deluxe won’t upgrade to Android 12. Anyone have any idea if I can download the upgrade. I haven’t found anything by Googling it.

Unfortunately, MECOOL isn’t very good at pushing out updates. I wouldn’t worry too much about moving up in Android versions as they don’t mean a lot on streaming devices and sometimes they break things that previously worked. Phones/tablets yes but not too many benefits on streaming devices. Is there a specific feature you are looking for in Android 12?

I was wondering if this was causing the parsing issue on my device. Besides trying to get the MX Player Pro I also tried to update the Weyd app and received the same error. So I went and looked to see if I was running the latest update/firmware which I am not.

I’m not sure what this firmware installs and maybe you already have this one on your device but this may help if you don’t.

This is pulled directly from the MECOOL website for the KM2 Plus.

These are their update instructions and I’m assuming when they refer to U disk, that means USB drive.

  1. Copy the update zip format firmware to the root directory of the U disk with the format of FAT32. (Do not unzip the update compressed file, otherwise you will not be able to upgrade.)
  2. Insert the U disk into the box.
  3. Open the “settings”-“device preferences”-“about”-“update”-“local update”-“select the file and confirm the upgrade” of the box.

Thanks Troy. Reading it appears this is a firmware update for Android 12. I’m really hesitant to attempt to install this in case it isn’t bundled with also having Android 12. I did go to the Mecool website and sent them an email asking about Android 12. I’ll see what they say. Thanks for the help!!

If I can find my KM2 Plus I will give it a shot and report back how the update goes.

That would be great…if yours is running Android 11.

I got my KM2 plus out a couple weeks ago just to see if it would update because I don’t care if it bricks, but it wouldn’t show the update. Might try it again.

Unfortunately, you need to update manually. I will shoot you guys a video soon on this.

Here’s new video on how to update firmware manually. @Trooper10173 not sure that this will take care of your parsing problem. I would also suggest trying to uninstall/reinstall Downloader as you may be using an old version or something wrong with it. Also, make sure you are downloading Downloader by AFTVNews and not that other imposter.

I’ve tested this new version for the past 30 minutes and everything seems to be working fine but I don’t see a lot of improvements which is typically the case for these Android TV updates.

Good luck!

Troy just one question, when you did the firmware update were you already running Android 12 or were you on 11? Should’ve watched the video first! Sorry answered my own question.
