Looking for a decent router, does TP-Link fit the bill

You don’t have to get their modem/ router you can get just the modem from them when you’re with Cox communications and you add on a landline phone they give it to you for free then you can purchase a example TP link AX1800 like I have for $79 at Amazon. You have more control with the router you own

I have the TP link AX 1800 had it for over a year now it’s $79 on Amazon on sale usually the one above that I would get now for $100 on sale someone else mentioned in a reply that you have to check and make sure it’s on the list of the ISP not on the router. I have Cox you can have a modem with a phone line jack that they will offer you for free as an upgrade docis 3.1 so you won’t have to use their built-in router I have been using TP-Link for years that one I mentioned comes with a two-year warranty and I had one in the past go bad and they replaced it within their warranty and upgraded it. The thing is with Wi-Fi 6 you won’t see it in the router is that way it works on the 5 gigahertz band Wi-Fi 6E will have its own band I’m assuming. But the only Wi-Fi 6 product I have is the Amazon Fire Stick Max second gen. Hope I have helped

He is talking about a router not a modem only if you purchase your own modem you need to be checking on their list of approved modems. Cox communication will give you a free modem if you have phone line added. Then you can put any router you want.

Ur right, my modem is also the router.

Well where I live is kinda in the boonies, and there’s only one cable company but there pretty reasonable on their prices. The only alternative is satellite, so I have to use their modem but can use my own router. That’s why I reached out to you all for suggestions which I really appreciate all the replies from you all!! So I’m really leaning towards the TP Link cause you all seem to like it

Use their Modem and use your own Router

Well their going to fiber optics so this is why I have to get my own router, they supply the modem for free but if I use their router I have to rent it for a monthly fee.

My internet provider brings in fibre and supplies me with a modem / router combo for free on a 150 Mbps down, 60 up service $65/mth. And thats in Canada where internet prices have been crazy high for years.

Wow that's crazy! My service provider is gonna give me 300 mps down and 300 up for $79 no contract. Plus their giving me a month free. Don't know if that's a good price but paying $67 a month now for only 100mps, thought I'd jump on that wagon! Lol

Well yes it’s good if you need the extra speed because you have about 10 to 15 devices using the bandwidth at the same time, otherwise 100 is plenty enough for up to about 5 devices.

This has pretty good specs and if you get the refurbished one it’s $27 right now NETGEAR 4-Stream 6 Router (R6700AXS) – with 1-Year Armor Cybersecurity Subscription - AX1800 Wireless Speed (Up to 1.8 Gbps) | Coverage up to 1,500 sq. ft., 20+ devices, AX WiFi 6 w/ 1yr Security https://a.co/d/biyyfQe

Yeah with the new setup their going to gonna get 300 MPS down and 300 up with a month free and no contract for $79 ah month.

Sorry about that my keyboard is freaking out :scream:

I would go with the cable company. Satellite companies really aren’t that great at the moment with speed and the amount of data they give you they will sell you blocks of data at a time when you go over and then slow down your speed if they offer unlimited when you go over.

Yeah fer sure no data cap with the cable company.

I had TP Link Router/Modem combo for years and it was great, but the 2.4Ghz radio went out and some things only run on the 2.4 (Ring doorbell and others). just bought a Netgear Nighthawk Modem/Router Combo at Walmart for about $200 and it’s awesome! Very fast, has not gone down once in 2 months. Very solid and super easy install with Cox.

That’s what I wanted to do but the cable company said with the new fiber optics system their using i need a router.

I have a Motorola router modem. I bridged the router and use one eero as the router in my office, and another eero in the living room. I have good speeds through out the home and outside deck. I am away from my summer home, and cannot give the exact models for the Motorola and error.

With Astound-AKA-RCN–Offers Fiber Optics,in our area, with a mesh system.Up to 5-TV,s- Service is great-and can stream without buffering on Firestick 4—What a difference between Comcast and Astound… The only reason I have Astound service is for my wife, she likes convential tv. The internet speed is excellent. IP also saved 100.00 monthly switch to Astound.I hope its ok to mention company names-I don’t post often.
