Now that Amazon has created a mess by disallowing side add-ons, I’m looking for best options. I also use the NVidia Shield too, but have been watching the comments on the ONN boxes and the Formuler ones as well. What is the current thinking on the Pros and Cons of each of them? Wondering if the price was right for Black Friday I may want to upgrade.
Just note that Amazon hasn’t disallowed sideloading except on one, likely-failing, product. Time will tell exactly what their end-game is. The Shield is pretty expensive for what most of us need; the Onn 4k Plus appears to fit the bill to replace the once-supreme firestick.
NVidia Shield is considered the top device for Google certified box and Onn boxes the best value Google certified - these are the devices for you if Netflix, Disney + etc are important because they will have up to date apps for these services. They have Google TV as the operating system.
Formuler Z11 Pro max - you would get for MYTVOnline 3 app, some say it’s the best app for IPTV. Android open source operating system.
I have been streaming for maybe 10 years. Over that time I have experimented with several devices searching for the “best” because after all, how do you know for sure unless you try them.
Admittedly, I have not tried every device on the market, but my every day box right now is Formuler 11 Pro Max BT. It does everything I need and offers easy straight forward interface. I also agree MyTVOnline 3 is a premium platform for IPTV. The formuler remote works very well with MyTvOnline3.
There is only one thing that bugs me: I most time use headphones and the formuler will ever so often cut the volume and throw up a box with high volume danger and require you to click out of it and reset your volume. Other than that can’t find a complaint.
Good luck with your search.
ETA: I have never tried Nivida Shield. I prefer open source box so no need to sign in to google or any other playstore.
Has Amazon actually pushed out updates to disallow Firesticks from sideloading apps? I just bought an ONN box, and sent my brother the video posted on YouTube about how to load it. His opinion was that until the current Firesticks are obsolete, he’s going to wait before getting a box, and by the time that happens, he feels there will be newer versions of the ONN or other similar devices.
Personally I would grab another box and set it up at least as a backup. Tech in these boxes isnt changing all that much, mostly the restrictions change. Any ONN device would fit the bill and its Walmart….easy returns.
What one device is that that Amazon has disallowed sideloading? I’ve got an old Amazon FireTV Cube that I bought back in 2020 and thinking of replacing as long as sideloading is still allowed.
That would be the latest FireTV Stick SELECT. A real piece of garbage if ever there was one! All of the older FireTV devices are still good as far as sideloading is concerned. A couple of particularly malicious apps were blocked by Amazon earlier this year but the vast majority are still working just fine.
