Kodi 21.1 crashes when trying to open on my onn 4k pro android tv box

Using Onn 4k pro for Android tv
Kodi 21.1
No build, just the kodi app I got from kodi beginner
No, did not update from 21.1
I wait until Troy says the versions are now stable.

I was asking @fortebab.

Some of the questions were about the build he uses.

You don’t need to uninstall anything. Just go to Troypoint Toolbox and download KODI 21.1. Then add whatever Addons you want.

Troy’s fork? I never used a fork app before.

Wow! Thanks. I’ve been trying to hold off on reinstall until I got ideas and advice from you guys in here

Its troys version of kodi. Almost identical. You can set up your addons on his fork just like regular kodi.

@MarkxG may be right about not needing to uninstall the old kodi but my theory is if you are having issues with it then get it off the device.

I’m sorry @JPM69

No need for that. I just didnt want to confuse you.

You could try updating Kodi before deleting it that may add back what you need

Some possible good news for you @fortebab

If you are certain you backed up your build in the Chef Wizard AND you know where it is located then you might be able to restore it again after you reinstall kodi and the diggz build.

I always change my backup location to External, Download …then Downloader and save that setting in the wizard. When i back up my build so i know thats where it will be.

If you delete/reinstall kodi and reinstall the diggz build just go back to the chef wizard. Then change the location to where you saved (if you changed). Then go to restore build and you should see it.

Also make sure you change the Permission in kodi under Apps to Allow all the time (or all access?) I foget but its the top choice.

IMPORTANT: If you saved it under the default location it may not be an external drive and may be deleted when you delete kodi ×××××
I dont know the default location.

Check and make sure that play protect hasn’t disabled Kodi. I had that to happen to a couple other apps as I had forgot to diable play protect .They were working fine and then out of nowhere disabled .

I will go into settings and make sure play protect is still disabled, thanks

How would I update kodi if I can’t open the app?

I believe if you go into the toolbox and just download whatever version you want. It will probably ask you if you’d like to update Kodi?

Do you know which version Troy says is stable? I’ll try to get it from Troy’s :toolbox:.
Everyone has really tried to help me solve my problem in here and I am very grateful to you all! I’ll let everyone know how things work out. Not going to try anything until later this morning. I’m up too late now! Lol
So off to bed I’m going. Goodnight everyone

I’ve had this same problem, both on the ONN 4K Pro and on the Google TV box. I didn’t do anything except install 21.1 from scratch from the TP Toolbox. I’ve tried everything shown in this thread, including uninstalling.

This is the version you want to download from the Toolbox

Ok, I’ll try that. Earlier I even tried to download or get a lower version from :toolbox:, I believe it was v20? It gave me a parsing error. I guess I don’t have any other choice than to uninstall the current v21.1 and install the one you just showed. Thanks @MarkxG
I’ll let everyone know.

@konexions Like I just told @MarkxG I tried downloading v21.1 hoping it would show as an update or install for repairs. It didn’t download. So I even tried to get a lower version but no luck because it gives me a parsing error which confuses me even more

@MarkxG @JPM69 @Throttlejockey @Dminor9 @konexions @fortebab @josh31
And everyone else who gave their time to help me out… I tried each and every one of your suggestions and unfortunately couldn’t get kodi back to working on my onn 4k pro box.

So, when I went to find Troy’s toolbox in downloader, I couldn’t re-open my onn 4k box!
Total black screen even tho it shows connected device. I tried everything from unplugging entire device to throwing it against the brick wall. So after all your help and advice I want to thank you but also want to apologize wasting your time when it looks like it must be the danged onn 4k pro box itself :unamused::worried::frowning:
I’m going to try to install another onn 4k pro to see if it will work. I will let you all know if I succeed :sparkles:
One more question before I leave, should I use a launcher? I’m nervous now. Your expert advice is SO APPRECIATED and WELCOMED!!!
Your fellow friend and Troy’s family member,
