Has anybody lately had problems with recording on Shield Pro using tivi mate. Like the recording just cutting off for no reason. Or the fast forward mechanisms all screwed up on the player and when you go to MX Pro it actually shows some buffering going on. When you guys change channels on your Shield Pro to the channel activate right away or is there a few seconds of buffering before the channel activates do you see the buffer wheel for a couple seconds before it activates.
I’m going to do some testing and I’ve done this before in the past about a year right after I got my show Pro, between my fire stick 4K and my shield Pro between buffering, recording, and when the show activates or when the channel activates how long the buffing wheel will stays on. Then later I’ll discuss this. Stay tuned LOL
Agreed with Miki the remote seems subpar at best on the shield. Upscaling is great but I watch mostly 4k content so it is not noticable on my TV.
Man you sound like one of the old heads I work with going on about Plex, Why would you want to host anything locally. I can’t name a single show or movie I have ever watched more than once. Why download and store which is basically illegal vs stream where you are not storing content. When my co workers tell me about Plex server running out of space and showing me they can stream IPTV from their Plex server at home on their cell phone. I’m like that’s cool but not for me. You can run off of a synology backup which is great but why keep movies like the original Batman or goonies when you will most likely never watch again.
I have had a lot of trouble recording with TiVimate on the Shield pro, using the removable storage. Once I record to the Pro itself it’s all good, but with a proviso. I found that if I use background apps and process list and shut down TiViMate my recording schedule doesn’t work correctly and is hit and miss. Now I clear all cache in the Pro settings and use the background apps and process list app to shut everything down accept my VPN, safety dot and Tivimate. I no longer have any controls when using the internal player, I have to use an external player like MX Pro to get FF, RW, Pause etc. Made some more changes last night and set up multiple scheduled daily recordings to record to the removable storage to see if the background apps and process list was the issue or if the removable storage SSD is the problem. Recording has been solid for 3 days but with only 12 GBs of space on the Shield it gets eaten up in a hurry. Especially with backups. Still testing to find a solution, but TiViMate seems to definately have new issues since the updates. Fine if you just use it for the IPTV. With that I haven’t had any issues.
FYI this is old news and all has been fixed. TiViMate updates fixed a lot and I just leave it running in the background but do clear the Shield Pro cache before shutting down for the night. Internal player controls are perfect now. No problems with recordings. X-plore is a great help. System picker also flawless.
I couldn’t disagree more about the Shield remote, I love it. The feel of it in my hand with a silicone cover, the motion activated backlights, the remote finder through the Shield app. Always been my favorite.
Plex is legally for storing your own (i.e. DVDs that you paid for) movies, shows, videos, pictures, etc, and being able to access them on the go. It may not make sense for everyone, but over the years it has been awesome for my kids. Yes, as adults we don’t watch the same stuff over and over, usually, but my oldest watches the same exact stuff over and over and over and over and over. Who wants to carry around a DVD and small DVD player for him when you can have your own server at home and access it anywhere?
I also like my remote and have a great silicone cover as well. I find the navigation ring to be just the right size for my old thumb.
Remapping buttons and their options, within the Shield options is simple. I find the triangle shape rests perfectly in my fingers as I cup it. Love the backlight.
Last night I did both my fire stick 4K Maxx and the shield Pro on recording the same channels and times. The 4K Maxx was flawless, The Shield Pro won’t even record if the firemax is hooked up. I remember having this problem once before when I first got the shield and I went back to the fire stick for a while. But then my Shield seem to be okay for a few months now it’s back the same problems. And again I blamed it on my IPTV provider but it wasn’t their problem. The Shield The Shield Pro when I start a channel it buffers for about 2 3 seconds sometimes 5 to 10 seconds. The fire stick hardly buffers it all in fact a lot of channels start right away without the buffing wheel stuff coming up. As far as watching shows and channels and s t r e m i o everything works fine it’s just the recording of the problem with the shield Pro and t i v i mate. I forgot to mention on the shield Pro I’m utilizing 128 GB flash drive scan drive 3.0.
I agree. I’ve spent many hours trying to analyze exactly why my TiViMate recording does not work properly to removeable storage. Works perfectly to the shield itself. More testing today. For some unknown reason I am missing 4+GBs of space on the Pro. I have 9GBs free with 3.1+Gbs of apps. The shield is suppose to have 16GBs but only shows 12GBs for storage. Seems odd if it uses 4GBs for the OS, but I suppose it’s possible.
I guess then it is not the best anymore? ![]()
The shield pro, fresh out of the box, will only list 12gb of usable storage after OS, OS overhead storage for execution, and pre-installed factory apps.
I think the OS installation is only 1.1gb in raw space but the extra overhead is what it needs to stretch its legs.
347 comments so far and I’m not sure, Is Nvidia still the best? AT WHAT or Overall and Does It Still Matter?
I own an Nvidia Shield Pro and really like it, but I’d love more Internal Storage.
Low end devices (ONN or TiVo) play great. T95s work for @MarkxG , Kinhank is half price of the Shield Pro, UGOOS, Formuler and more seem to be great alternatives, so …
Is NVIDIA Still the Best and Does It (Still) Matter?
Going to take another day or two to verify that the 256GB SSD removable storage is finally working with the pro. One recording worked this morning with the Shield Pro off, while I was away. Good start. 2 more recordings to go today. I may have resolved my problem with setting up a TiViMate recording schedule and recording to removeable storage at last, and my mistake may have been Using the background apps and process list App and shutting down TiViMate completely.
Yeah you can’t shut down tvmate completely it won’t record.
Well my problem was that I shut it down completely overnight and then started it back up the next day and had recordings scheduled for that day, but recording was glitchy and sometimes would start but only record for say 10 minutes, other times it would start and immediately shut down and note the recording for the next day and so on. Leaving it running in the background, and just shutting the shield down, it seems now to be recording scheduled recordings just fine whether the shield is on, and being used, or off. Clearing all cache, in the Shield Storage settings is fine, just can’t completely stop Tivimate running in the background. Tx for the help @AJS1
And if I clear the cache on the tivi mate the recordings schedule be there but it will not record I’ll have to update all the schedules. And I know I’m the only guys have this issue! LOL
I still clear my “all cache” every night using the Shield settings. So I’ll do that tonight and see if it makes any difference to the recordings tomorrow. But nice to finally get a few in the “win” column.
Why not use TDUK App Killer? It’s faster, more convenient, and you can whitelist apps you don’t want to force stop, such as Tivimate, VPN, etc…
I got rid of that albatross, Background Apps and Process list when I got TDUK’s App Killer.
Btw, your Shield just goes to sleep and is not really off. That’s why it can wake up to record, do reminders, etc…
Not paying for TDUK when I can do it myself. Background apps and process list works just fine I just don’t choose to clear Tivi, VPN or Safety dot from background running apps. Yup I know how the shield works. Now may finally be getting the hang of TiViMate recording. Tx for the suggestions @Powerfader
YES! I have 3 - 2nd gen shields that worked as good as if they were brand new. 2017. The speed and reliability is untouchable. Often imitated, never duplicated.
Spend the money, get a shield. If you have tried the less quality sticks and boxes, and then bought a shield, you fully understand. Almost 10 years since it debut and shield is still king!![]()

There’s a glitch in my shield Pro as far as recording, utilizing external flash drive I have a lot of recording problems with my shield Pro as mentioned above. With a five fire stick 4K Maxx I don’t have the issues recording is flawless except when my IPTV puts a channel on maintenance. T i v i mate seems to be able to record even through the roughest buffering now. So all my recording programs will have to go through the fire stick 4K Maxx. And live TV watching and s t r e m i o will go through the shield Pro
