IPTV endless loop

I have two providers IPTV providers providing the playlists to TiviMate; Apollo and Kemo Sat.

Last night KS lost a bunch of channels. I figured they would repopulate this morning. They did not so I rebooted my Fire TV Cube 2nd generation.

After the reboot, TiviMate opens as I have TiviMate set that way. Within seconds of TiviMate launch, Kemo Sat reboots. As soon as KS finishes it’s reboot, TiviMate tries to reboot and so on…

I tried to go to applications on my cube to delete KS but I am not able to do this because the relaunching takes place before I can scramble down to the KS app.

I tried to stop the automatic opening of TiviMate but I can’t get there fast enough before the KS reboot.

I went to Troypoint to search how to factory re-set my Firestick. Hold down the right and back button together for 10 sec. The first time I tried this the box came up asking me to confirm that I was reseting my Firestick and I agreed. And then KS relaunched, followed by TiviMate relaunching and I cannot factory reset my fire stick.

If I continue holding down the right and back button I no longer get the box asking if I want to factory reset as the stick just continues it’s loop between KS and TiviMate.

Method two for how to factory reset won’t work either cause I can’t get there quickly enough before KS relaunches followed by TiviMate.

I hate to have to factory reset my cube, but I think it is unavoidable. But how? Any is help appreciated.

My Apollo subscription is good until Feb. 2025 and KS is good until Nov. 2024

If you can go to a channel real quick when it comes on, or hit the select button. maybe try the back button. I assume you’ve cleared cache? Uninstall and re install Tivimate is another option.

I never thought clearing cache’s did much. But I shall try it, as nothing seems to be working.

Great idea to uninstall TiviMate. I should be able to do that without going into the fire stick, meaning, I can do it quickly before the loop starts up again and prevents me.

it will take time if I am successful at deleting TiviMate to get the playlists back in, but I will left report back later if any of this works. thank you!!!

Also worth rebooting the router, quick and easy

Go into settings>>>apps and force stop tivimate, reboot

Not sure if pressing the home button and the select at the same time will bring up the settings like it should. You can get that a shot. Good luck

I couldn’t do most of the suggestions because they take a few seconds to complete and in that time the loop took over, sigh.

I thought maybe that batteries were low explaining the slow response time to my remote. I added new batteries in the remote which promptly uncoupled the remote %$%##!!

So now had to figure out how to factory reset from the cube.

That did work and was easy. it took me until now to get most everything reloaded (thanks Troy tool box). I don’t know what caused the problem, but it’s up and running no more loops.

Just in time to watch my Colts lose to Tennessee!

Curious, did you ever pull the power out of the wall to see if that would work?

Yes.

1.I rebooted cube with holding the select and play/pause button on remote.
2. I unplugged and reconnected the cube from the wall, although not sure how that is different from above.
3. I unplugged and after 10 minutes reconnected our gateway.

Each one done separately,. None of the worked. BUT the potential problem may be returning.

if I activate Surfshark, it cause Kemo to reopen and to then, disconnect Surfshark? Why would Kemo reopening disconnect Surfshark? I can’t watch tivimate with SS, Kemo provides one of my playlists, I’m in a loop of 1. active SS, 2. restarts Kemo, 3. disocnnects SS???

I prefer Kemo to Apollo cause Apollo won’t keep up wiith it’s epg. But Kemo is so big, even though I asked only for US channels, maybe that is the problem. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

within tivimate you can disable all countrys you dont want

@TXRon Thanks TXRon, yes I knew I can, but the only country I have enabled is the US? And within US channels I have disabled all channels I don’t care about, winnowing it down even further. There appears to be a conflict b/w SS and Kemo that is new.

never heard of that or even think thats possible, almost sounds malware like or possible just device specific. Do you have another android box to try?

I’m never sure what is meant by android. Are Firestick’s androids? I have a feeling they are not,.

I have a Firestick 4K I can try, but would I really expect a different result? I’ll try tomorrow. it took the better part of the day futzing with the issue and then reloading the stripped cube with my apps.

I like the cube cause I record directly on to it. I know there are other ways to record but the other ways didn’t work for me. Long story.

Yea just try another device to rule out the cube.

I think you found your answer Surf Shark. Why? don’t know. I would uninstall SS or try a fresh copy or just use something else. Fire devices are a modified version of Android.

OMG. I finally deleted Kemo Stat and was shocked and delighted to find out the links in TiviMate still worked but I no longer had the problem of Kemo logging itself on. And yet, Surf Shark still won’t connect???

So now it is a SS problem. I’m writing sS a big email of all I have done to try to troubleshoot the problem and while I’m writing I wonder, why now? how did this start out of no where??? What changed?

Then it dawned on me. I opened an Amazon prime account!!!

Sheesh. I needed to split tunnel!!! It wasn’t SS. it wasn’t Kemo. it was ^%$^& Amazon and I should have known better, but I haven’t joined Prime in years.

So thank you all for your help with this impossible problem that I finally solved! There goes my Sunday!

Huh? Amazon Prime would not cause this issue

Two things.

First, I thought the rationale for split tunneling was that Amazon blocks the ability of Firesticks to use a VPN. But I’ll wait for someone more knowledgable to weigh in. Maybe I misunderstood. I do know that split tunneling in Surf Shark solve the problem.

Second, last night SS emailed me the follwowing:

"Recently, after the newest version, the Surfshark application on the Firestick device tends to crash or simply not work.
We are investigating the cause of this issue.
In the mean time, would it be possible to send us the diagnostics so we could analyze the issue?

  1. Open the Surfshark app on your Fire TV device.
  2. Go to Settings, and select App Settings.
  3. Then select Diagnostics, and send them over! You can leave the message blank.
(It’s also very important that you are not connected to the VPN when collecting diagnostics)."

So perhaps they fixed this and this is why my problem resolved and I thought it was the split tunneling?..D

Fire OS devices, including Firesticks and the Cube, are not blocked from using a VPN.

split tunneling is simply routing an app through the vpn or not. Surfshark gives you 2 options. 1- Bypass VPN or 2-Route via VPN.
I usually use the first option (Bypass the VPN). Doing this my device and all apps are not on the vpn unless I add them here. In your case you would simply add uncheck tivimate and any other app you want on the vpn.
