šŸš€ How to Install SlimBOXtv Firmware on Android TV Box

Hello, I tried doing that other video and I could never get it to work on those devices.

@forby69 Although there is a couple Realtek chipset deals that will work, when it comes to the Formuler boxes no. You can answer this question for yourself for any box you have by going to their website & entering the box or CPU it has you wish to use their firmware in to see if it’s available. I done a search entering Realtek & only showed 2 to have firmware for. Most all are Amlogic CPU so if it isn’t that then most likely it won’t have it. There are a few Allwinner CPU’s available.

I bought a MeCool M8S PRO in 2018 and have been using it ever since. I almost switched in early 2024, but after some research, I came across the SlimBOXtv site and decided to give it a go. I was so happy to breathe new life into my favorite box. In fact I came across one in a thrift shop for almost free, so I had to grab it and flash SlimBOXtv onto it as well and now it’s my box at my in-laws in Canada when we go back home for a visit. So imagine my surprise when I saw Troy had done a post about SlimBOXtv about a year afterwards. I’m glad to see others taking advantage of it now. I’ve been a proponent of ā€œopen sourceā€ since downloading Slackware Linux back in 1994! It changed my life!

When a new update comes out do you usually reflash your box or leave it be? If all is running good is there any advantages in updating?

For me if I am not having issues I see no need to possibly create some. Unless there is something in the update that I specifically feel i need or want.

My understanding is that there may not be any updates and the project may be done being worked on by the person/people behind it.

Yeah, I usually will you don’t need a clean reflash. Typically though I’ll always look at the patch notes.

I installed the Slimbox firmware on my MeCool KM6 Deluxe. Went smoothly. (The video makes it simple.)

It doesn’t get much use these days. Will see if the new firmware makes a difference.

Wish Slimbox had an image for the BuzzTV X5.

Update edit:

During installation, I never got the Superuser Request dialog box. A few days later, while getting familiar with the software, the dialog box briefly appeared when clicking on the Download patch. Was then able to toggle on Android System in Magisk and Superuser rights were granted.
