Hi everyone! Figured out my problem. Cleared cache’s and changed location on surfark. Google tv live tab came back. Thank you for ALL the help.
Hi there!
Welcome to Troypoint.
You’ll definitely get alot of help from everyone here.
I use a Firestick. I go to Applications Force Stop Surfshark and then Launch it from Applications. This fixes it.
I’m glad you resolved yours. Yesterday my Firestick 4K suddenly would not connect to the internet. The message said connected to Wi-fi but ‘no internet’.
Tried multiple restarts. Surfshark disconnect. I even swapped Firesticks Still no. I ultimately uninstalled Surfshark and all operations returned to normal.
At some point I did see an error message that mentioned the kill switch but I could not access the Surfshark app because the Home Screen would not display.
So now that operation is back to normal I am hesitant to reinstall the VPN.
On surfshark, change from the regular to static vpn. There are 5 or 6 out of new york that are high speed.
I have Smart Tube on my Firestick and when SurfShark is on I get a message that tells me to sign in because they think I’m a “Bot”. I turn SurfShark off, it starts working without signing in. I have a question Troy, is Smart Tube, YouTube without commercials or is it something I need to use a vpn with?
Right you are it is Cloudflare. A lot of websites are using Cloudflare to secure their sites. Sometimes Surfshark is detected as malicious activity. I change my IP and go back in the page and let Cloudflare do a verification successful and I’m able to continue on whatever I was doing.. Hope this helps!
I am having same issue. TiviMate and Syncler will not work with Surfshark. No problem until I did the most recent Google TV update. I have a Sony Bravia TV. SurfShark claims it it the internet provider (Xfinity), and they are unable to do anything about it at this time.
I tried everything suggested with the same result.
I did not receive a satisfactory response from Surfshark when I contacted customer service so I will try other VPNs.
Hello, there is no way that Google TV or Android TV is preventing Surfshark from working properly. Have you tried rebooting your router? Changing server within VPN? Also, take a look at Troy’s video regarding IPTV blocking VPN servers.
I recently tried using “static IP addresses” on SS VPN based on suggestions here even though I haven’t had the problems some are experiencing. Would be nice to know what a “static” address is though lol
Most of those on the internet have a “dynamic” IP address. These are given to “users” on a “lease” basis and the IP address will change and renew with a new address after this “Temporary” lease has expired. Dynamic addresses change depending on the lease length designated by the ISP. A static IP address is one which never changes and ISPs charge per month for these addresses on top of the price for internet access.
Thanks for the explanation Miki. Just to be clear, the monthly charges for a static IP address is paid by the VPN and not the customer directly…right?
And I suppose an advantage is that if it is working, it’s most likely going to continue to work. Whereas as a dynamic IP address’ lease may be up and the new address may not play well.
No Static IP addresses are owned by the Internet Service Provider and they charge you per month if you want a static IP address, and that charge is added to your service bill. If you wish to hide your static IP address then you would need a vpn.
A static IP address does not reveal your name or any other personal information. While a static IP address can be used to track your general location (like your city or zip code) and identify your Internet Service Provider (ISP), it doesn’t provide access to your name, address, or other sensitive details.
Now I do not know if Surfshark owns a block of addresses and lets them be used by their customers for free but I doubt it. I found this>
Surfshark’s Dedicated IP (a type of static IP) costs an additional $3.75 per month on top of your regular Surfshark subscription. This feature provides you with a fixed IP address, which can be useful for tasks like accessing remote servers or maintaining consistent connections. You also have the option to choose the location of your dedicated IP, with options like Los Angeles, London, Sydney, and Tokyo.
So it looks like Surfshark has purchased blocks of IP addresses in 4 countries.
But since I’m picking a static IP address through Surfshark it shouldn’t mean I’ll be billed for it?
Please reread my above post, I just found that additional info.
Yikes, I’ve been using their New York #3, and that means I’ll be paying more per month for that server than for SS itself. Guess I’ll be going back to surfing the dynamic servers.
Wait, are we talking about the same thing? Is a “static IP address” the same as a “dedicated” server address ($3.75/month)?
Yes it is what SS calls it but yes.
