Google is moving forward with new Android sideloading restrictions that will arrive in September 2026. The company calls this an “Accountability Layer” rather than a ban, though it will make installing apps (APKs) from outside the Play Store more difficult for average users. Google plans to roll out this system in September 2026. Brazil, Indonesia,…
What’s everyone’s plan? I keep thinking of buying a buzz TV box but they are pricey or can someone answer if we will still be able to sideload an unverified app using ADB if Google decides to completely block unverified apps?
Thanks for all being the best community
There is no way anyone can determine how manufacturers will handle this news and what the powers that do deep dives or coding will be able to figure out. All we can do is wait and see.
I am not doing a thing will continue to use my ONN boxes. Plus it appears they are going to give warnings that the app may be dangerous but will leave the decision to the end user so nothing may change
Watch and wait. Worst case may be we will have to sideload via ADB link.
was just about to order a new android box I am ditching my firestick was looking at a google 4k box with 32gb now that meecools looking better ……decisions decisions after reading this.My first streaming device was a roku a gift from my aunt but that was very limited. Then glory be came the firestick and all was right inmy streaming world again. Nothing good last for ever everything must change ….
If the changes are as described, I don’t think that it’ll be that big of deal.
The Google people are more concerned with the money made from the ads and fees to approve development than they are actual security for the end user. I’m guessing that the vast majority of users don’t and won’t bother jumping through the loops like we do…
So far the biggest threat to my ONNs have been from the update to Android 14.
I use spectrum internet on most boxes i have out for family and friends. Spectrum has a built in security suite suite that also blocks some sites. the security suite is free and automatically “protects” you. but you have to log in to your spectrum account and turn it off if you want to sideload some apps
How do you do ABD link?

‘While these changes aren’t ideal for cord-cutters and streaming enthusiasts who rely on sideloading apps onto Android TV/Google TV devices, the situation could be worse.
Google backed away from its original plan to block unverified apps entirely while Amazon is already blocking third-party apps on Fire TV devices.’
We will keep a close eye on this but Google TV/Android TV devices is what we still recommend - Best Android TV/Google TV Boxes in 2026 (Goodbye Fire TV)
Do you need a computer to sideload using ADB?
I rarely use adb commands. I don’t even have the adb shell app installed. I don’t use amazon devices any more and can sideload anything I need onto my devices without the adb commands. I have used it in the past to make a SSD both internal and external partitioned for both apps and recordings. But it isn’t easy. There are a lot of commands you need to use and you need to know how to enter them exactly. I would not recommend a beginner or novice streamer to attempt using ADB.
I did it as a relative novice with time on their hands. I wanted to install an external usb flash drive so I could add a few APK’s and leave plenty of room on the firestick. Followed instructions on a YT vid. Lots of steps but perfectly do-able.
Buzz tv is
. I did exactly what you are thinking, for the same reason. I got the powerstation 6 and it has been awful. Very buggy, random power cycles, wont control the tv or audio equipment reliably. I spent a week trying to make it work. The company was 0 help, always suggested the same troubleshooting methods over and over. Never offered to replace it or make it right in any way. I wouldn’t buy a fire extinguisher from them if I was on fire. ![]()

A friend in northern Alberta, forgot to turn on his vpn.and turned on his iptv.then got a message to go to a web site, which told him that has been band, and he has to a subscription from Amazon.this was on his firestick. Not good news
Not sure what you’re doing wrong but I have the P6L Ultimate and it is da bomb. Best device I’ve ever had and works like a dream. I don’t use the Buzz TV I use TiVimate, Stremio and STRMR.
I think I just have a bad unit. My problem is the way they handled it. Im sure the ps6 are beasts when they work. They refused to replace it or refund my money without me paying shipping and eating the restock. I was also using tivimate but the problem was the ps6 would just cycle and not operate properly.
Hello @wolfleg have you tried doing a factory reset? I know that it doesn’t make sense needing to do this to a new unit but it has helped me in the past specifically with BuzzTV devices.
I did a few times. Once before I contacted their support and at least twice while working with them.
