Well I have no idea why it works for me. I did not turn off my VPN. I regged an account even showing I’m in Canada, I verify my e:mail addy and then chose live TV, Series, Movies, anything. When asked if I have a tv license I click yes and start the feed. Watching what ever is available. I should mention, not in Kodi, this is the stand alone app from the uptodown store via the link I posted. VPN set to Canada.
That’s pretty much what I did, but with a UK postal code.
It didn’t ask me for a postal code, just an email and then entered my own pass. Odd how it’s different for different users. This is on my Pixel Tab. Didn’t try it on the Pro. Going to delete it though as it isn’t anything I’ll use, just did it for a test.
Yeah, I didn’t see any benefit in keeping the app. So I uninstalled it the same day.
I am very used to the BBCiPlayer app and have downloaded it and registered it several times. I don’t get the usual screen when you first click on it - it just goes to the Home Screen directly, which is frozen. This is despite having uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times from different sources. Something weird is going on with my system and I am bracing myself for a factory reset lol!
Ya, cause I’ve tried it twice now, tested it, and after watching different sources in the app I deleted my account both times. Works for me. Pixel Tab, Android 14
Yeah there is something op with my KM7 system.
I have Fire devices collecting dust, Nvidia is my daily box, was kind of expansive but have had it 6 years or more, no issues so I feel like the cost was justified by its updates and performance. I also have several Roku units on my bedroom TVs and it still works well for what it is.
How did you turn off updates? I can’t find that ability anywhere.
Troypoint did an article on it which you.can find if you search for it. But Amazon stopped that a way back so it doesn’t work on later sticks
Not in the required budget range, but one of the best days last year was when I purchased my first Google-built-in TV set. A TCL 55 inch budget model. Gone are the days now of splitters and memory sticks and multiple configs and dead devices.
That’s fine if your happy to stay with Google tv and not be able to side load apps when, probably, Google will prevent that in future
Okay, not totally tech-savvy here, but worried enough to check out a couple of things, the first of which is the statement: “Xiaomi stick - but that is no longer available on Amazon”. However, when I did a quick search I found it still listed.

Mecool boxes and sticks.
You are right. If you click on the link in Troypoint’s review it takes you to the Amazon page of a 2022 stick which is not available. I failed to notice that what is presumably a later model referenced at the top of the page which is avalable. Thank you for pointing that out
Onn is a great little box easy to side load anything you want
I have two of them , I had firesticks , but Amazon suspended my account because I was hacked. So those went to the local landfill ,those ONN boxes are reasonably priced , and fully better than firestick ever was. Their retail price @ $20.00 is worth every penny.
Sorry to hear about your Amazon suspension but pleased you are happy with your ONN stick
I raised this topic because I have a FS 4K Max and I needed an additional device. Amazon are going to introduce a new operating system which will probably prevent sideloading apps on new sticks and Google’s recent announcement suggests they will probably prevent users switching off Play Protect, which you have to do if you want to sideload apps which are not in the play store.
This means that the device must run either stock Android or Android TV - the latter being preferred. People have suggested various boxes and sticks and I thank you for that info. I would point out that some devices suggested, like the ONN stick, run Google TV and so do not meet my criteria.
A comment by TechdoctorUK made me wonder if I’m jumping the gun. His point is that developers like him have to be able to sideload their apps under development before they can be accepted into an App Store, so he doubts whether preventing sideloading capability will ever happen. We shall see.
Although apparently now out of favour I am quite happy with my existing 4K Max. The only live TV I need are news and sports and as there are good apps for these I don’t need an IPTV service. Incidentally I have found the movies and TV shows I want to watch turn up quite quickly after first showing on Stremio. I can still use Wolf launcher to avoid the ads although Launch Manager not working means the home button returns to the Home Screen, but a few clicks and I am back with Wolf. I guess for some folk this level of messiness would be infuriating but it doesn’t bother me - each to his or her own! The main point is that it plays what I want excellently.
I played around with a MeCool KM7 box I bought a few years ago and know that I can get what I want out of an Android TV box if it comes to it. But I did not like the remote.
In the end I have bought a new FS 4K Max. Yes, twice the price of the ONN stick but its 16GB storage means I don’t have to buy the bits to extend the storage. It is just more convenient for me to stick with the same system on both sticks.
At my age it is quite possible that their useful life will exceed mine haha!
Carry on streaming and best of luck everybody.
Gumboil, like you I didn’t want to get an ONN box because of being forced to use the Google platform. After doing research (on Troypoint) I found out you can remove google TV and operate ONN boxes in “basic mode”. It was very easy to do. I have a couple ONN boxes that work great without having google tv or having to log into anything google.
I did have to use my google account initially for the setup. Once you enable developer options and turn on USB debugging in the settings you can remove any and all personal information along with google TV. You click your info and log out. It then gives you the option to use “basic mode”. Basic mode only includes the apps you specifically want. In my case I have the downloader app, 2 iptv apps (tivimate and smarters) along with a VPN app. Once set up you can still add or delete additional apps in basic mode by using the downloader app…without ever being forced to use or reload google tv.
I have 3 different boxes. A MeCool KM7, Onn and a Minix U22. As of yet I have no issues with my KM7, it works well. The ONN I still need to set up because it has limited storage but for now no problems. The Minix I factory reset and loaded TiviMate on for baseball only. The only reason I drifted away from Minix was the lack of support. I sub to their forum and the complaint over and over was about the lack of interest from the developers to upgrade and support their UH9, which I used for a few years and was happy. I guess I’m happy if I get good feeds with little or no buffering. I don’t care about all the audio stuff everyone talks about, I don’t have a home theater. Video, 4K? I don’t care. My video is good for my eyes. You are going to get such a wide opinions of boxes it will drive you crazy
