Firestick storage

I have a FireStick 4K Max, Fire OS 7.6.7/1 which indicates that there are 0b of 5.34GB available. I am unable to see which apps are loaded on the Firestick.

I have a San Disk 128GB 3.0 USB drive installed, which “My FireTV” shows Apple TV, Downloader, Kodi, Mixplorer, Troypoint, Sideload Launcher, Surfshark and VPN SafetyDot are all loaded on the USB. That said, “Storage” shows 122GB of 122GB available, as if these apps have not consumed any disk space.

Now I constantly get a pop-up telling me to offload some of the apps that are supposedly on my USB drive. Is it possible that all of these programs are loaded on the Firestick in spite of the indications that they are loaded on the USB drive?

Any help and guidance will be much appreciated.

I posted a vid up farther in this thread. Watch it and follow along and you should be fine. Don’t forget, just because most of an apps files are put on the USB there are still data files that remain on the internal device storage.

I had exactly the same on my Fire cube, i was getting the “no space” pop up, I would uninstall all the programs it said until nothing was left on it but it still said 0mb left after a few minutes. I tried to get help on here but nobody could help. In the end I contacted Amazon who were very helpful and said it’s quite a common fault where the device doesn’t clear its own cache (apparently it auto clears periodically), it then build up until it takes up all the room on the device. They advise a full reset and if it happened again I would need a new device. By the time I’d managed to get an answer I’d already replaced it with the Sheild (worth every penny). I’ve just given my reset Fire cube to my mum so it’s to early to know if it does it again or not. Hopefully this helps.

In line with my previous post regarding USB storage, I have followed the advice and instructions offered and, by all outward appearances, I have successfully moved programs from internal to the USB drive. By all outward appearances I mean I am seeing the USB icon when I look at installed applications.

My concern is that I have loaded 10 programs on the USB drive which utilize well over 1 GB of space. However, my total External Space shows 121GB of 122GB available, it should be less, I think. Additionally, my Fire TV Stick 4K Max shows 2.42 GB of 5.34GB available.

The problem is I am receiving notices of updates available, i.e. Netflix and Apple TV, which are loaded on my USB drive, and each time I try to update them I get a message “not enough storage available” and the update is canceled.

I can’t imagine that the updates would require more than 121 GB of space. I would appreciate any thoughts the community may have on this issue.

Many thanks, Harleydriver

From my knowledge and experience with Firesticks you have to move any apps from the external flash drive back to the internal Firestick storage in order to successfully update them, then move them back to the flash drive. A royal pain in the *** but that’s the way it is. Also remember, regardless of if you move the majority of an app from the Stick itself to the flash drive the app still has Data stored on the stick. That’s the way they work. Now this is on the FireOS 7 I have not worked on the FireOS 8

thank you I appreciate your thought

How do I add additional storage to my Firestick? I am out of internal storage. Is that possible?

Lately i have been unable to even see an attached usb drive even just to use to view films from. Is attached storage still working?

Is the firestick you using the latest FireOS 8 or an older model?

I got a couple but i dont think they are running fire os 8. Its a firestick 4k 1st gen, running os 6 i think.

FireOS 6 is pretty old. Not sure about issues with it not seeing the USB. May have to do a search for the older firesticks with OS 6.

Thing is i had it all working then all of a sudden stopped working on all the devices. I will try formatting a couple of usb’s with rufus and see what happens.

A lot of members documented issues with trying to get memory sticks to format to fire stick for Max of any operating system. I have a 4K Maxx OS 7.6.8.1 it will not recognize any brand new memory stick. It still recognizes my 128 MB scan disk will not recognize any new disks formatted internal external doesn’t matter I tried to use in Rufus didn’t help.

From any firesticks I programmed I simply attached the powered hub, plugged in the USB drive and the stick opened a prompt to format it right away. But those were all OS7

I have a sandisk 128gb that use to work and now doesn’t. Im going to try a smaller size see if that works.

I dont have a powered hub, but since it worked before i dont think that is the issue. Memory stick gone bad? But still works in shield lol. I will try today and see the outcome.

Think ive sorted it. If i connect an 8gb usb stick i get the popup on firestick stating a drive has been connected so i know the otg adapter is working. Tried with the freshly formatted 128gb stick but no popup from the firestick acknowledging it has been connected, anyways i thought i would go into kodi and look in files and the stick is showing up there, so im gonna put a few movie files on and see if it plays. So fingers crossed lol cheers for everyones advice.

Edit.
All working fine i can view movies through kodi and other video players. The only thing i did do different was formatted the drive with rufus, i usually use minitool partition wizard, not sure if that helped. I dont think the drive can be used as internal storage, with it not showing in firestick storage section, but i don’t need it for that.

I followed Troy’s guide to format stick here.

I have a question about the silk app logo disappearing from the manage apps screen. I have a fire cube and 2days ago the silk app disappeared. I was able to uninstall silk from the home screen and re install and that worked for 1 day, now its gone again. Silk is still on my OS but you cant access it in the manage apps screen again so unable to force stop or uninstall and you have to open silk to clear the cache. Is this another thing Amazon has taken over? Any help appreciated
