Firestick keeps shutting off

Fire stick keeps shutting off. Pretty sure it’s Kodi.

Hello everyone,

My fire stick keeps shutting off on me after couple hours of watching Kodi. It pretty much only happens when I’m dealing with Kodi and I have not unplugged my fire stick at any point giving it the chance to lose battery. This isn’t the first Firestick to do this to me. I had one before I bought a new one thinking it would stop the situation. Has anyone else ever dealt with this happening and is there a way to fix it?

Well not to nit pick but is it only Kodi or pretty much only kodi?

Also, what power source are you using? Power strip? Wall outlet? Anything else drawing power from that breaker?

bit confused what battery overheating will cause stick to shut down

I wasnt mentioning overheating i was just wondering how he powered up the FS.

I know when i first bought one, many years ago, i plugged it into my tv usb(?) and would turn off after a while. Using a better power sourse solved that.

yes exactly my thought some sticks will overheat if no sufficient airflow around it ie plugged into back of tv. also there is no battery in stick

It’s plugged directly to the wall. I put it into my tvs USB port

so its plugged into tv usb port for power

@Dj_bigcuban No the tv will probably not be a good power source.

Is it only when using kodi or other times as well?

do you use the little extention lead that comes with stick that will keep it from being to close to tv

@JPM69 what other source should/could I use. I’m sorry I’m not extremely techy. Since it’s an HDMI the only way I can think of making it work is having it plugged to the wall and it being directly connected to my tv through the USB however I plug it into the wall to keep it charged the whole time.

@pirate77 yes I do.

Yeah thats the best way to set it up (plugged into wall).

Read what Pirate77 sent. It could help.

plugged into wall is fine. seems like its overheating kodi wont shut it down if it did there would be thousands of people with the same problem if you have another hdmi port try that one also stick works by power from adaptor that comes with it there is no battery in stick

Also, is everything factory issued parts for that exact FS? Nothing after market or from a different FS version?

Thanks @pirate77 and @JPM69 yes it’s from the same FS

When dealing with another issue today i noticed this one is actually directly in an hdmi switch that we have due to not having enough space in my actual tv. I have two fire sticks. One that doesn’t have Kodi that is plugged to the tv and the one that does have Kodi with the hdmi switch. I have two due to space. I split them into two fire sticks due to not having enough hard drive space

I am having that same issue and I’m not using kodi. The tv is actually being turned off. This started with the Feb update and is happening on samsung tvs. I turn tv power back on using the amazon firestick remote and my firestick is back to the main menu but not off.

I took kodi off my stick. There is enough good apps out there that is making kodi obsolete!I went to the Flix Vision app with real debrid and have everything with no problems. Firestick doesn’t have enough memory for all the the stuff you have to install on it to make everything run smoothly

How old is your Fire Stick? I had a FS that did what you have described (Cutting Off) and I just decided to buy a new one. Since then I have had Zero problems. The FS can and will overheat unless it has a good source of air. Overheating isn’t very common however. At least it isn’t in my experience with the FS. My new FS is better than my previous one. I truly believe the FS 4K is the better of the FS’s. I base that solely on my experience with the FS 4K. In sum, although you don’t hear on many FS’s going bad, I do believe they can and have.

You should invest in a Fire cube. They cost more than a Fas, but they have a a lot more memory and runs by the Ethernet.
