well,we finally getting fiber optic to me.my question is.they say 5Mbps down and 2up.my internet speed is 87 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up.should I upgrade to fiber or stay where I’m at
Ok so I’m confused. Your ISP says you will only get 5 MBs down but you’re actually getting 87MBs down??
no,i get 87Mbps now.but if I switch over to fiber they said I will get 5Mbps.what does 2up mean
There is no way Fiber optic cable will only give you 5MBs down with 2 MBs up. That’s almost back to dialup. So they upgrade your service but downgrade your speed?? I think you need to contact them. I suspect you got something wrong. I believe it should be 150MBs down. I know everyone rants about upload speed but most of that is only used for network overhead unless you are transferring large files or vids, so upload over 20MBs is sufficient for the average user.
Looks like if you go to fiber you’ll actually be downgrading service. What do you have now? Cable?
Agree with Miki, it’s 2022. I haven’t even heard of a provider that goes down to 5mb and if they do Fiber is usually synchronous, meaning same speed up and down
dro.yes,I have cable
Are you sure it doesn’t say Gbps? Lower case b stands for bits, while upper case B stands for bytes.
That makes more sense 5GBs as opposed to 5MBs
Sustained 5Mbps down and 2 up for $49.95
Sustained 10Mbps down and 2 up for $79.95
Sustained 15Mbps down and 2 up for $99.95
this is what they are trying sell me
For those prices I’d honestly just get Starlink.
No way. That’s insane. Fiber Optic is top shelf and yet they want to drop your speeds. Do not lower your speeds. If you’re getting 87MBs down now, is that with a vpn active?
Down here in Mexico you can get internet for $25 US that is 150 MBs down.
Miki yes,that’s with my VPN
I think the fiber optics made a mistake. They will use Gbps to advertise thier speed. The fastest optics can do at this time is 100Gbps. There are approx. 8Mbps in one Gbps. Your current download speed is already fast.
Exactly. If they are misrepresenting their speeds then can you trust anything they say? 87MBs down with a VPN is great speed and will give you the best buffer free experience you could ask for. Unless they get thongs straight I’d stick with what you have $99.99 For 15MBs down us robbery.
1 Gbps = 1000Mbs
So if it is 5Gbps then that is great speed.
5Gbps X 1000 = 5000 Mbs
Hgmartin ,thanks.I do get a problem with buffing once in awhile.I thought that maybe fiber optic would stop that
yea your right Miki, maybe I’ll move to Mexico LOL
5Gbps is 5000 Mbs. So that’s killer speed and fiber is less likely to have noise or lag so would give you smoother streaming. For $50/mth take it.
I just e-mail them to see what is right Mbps or Gbps.I’ll let you know what they say
here is there reply No, those are the correct speeds and fastest we provide so it’s not Gbps.I’ll stay with what I have
