Cutting The Cord - My Setup

Currently I have a Nvidia Shield Pro connected to my stereo equipment. I want to install a second shield that works only on my soundbar. I want to cancel Directv next week and this is what I’m planning on. If this is not the way to go, please let me know.

Nivida Shield Pro
Tivimate Premium (all ready on my current shield)
SanDisk - Ultra 256GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Should I format this to FAT32?)

Even though I won’t be doing much recording or maybe none at all, I want the option to record. From the videos I’ve watch I’m assuming I can record from Tivimate to the flash drive and delete it from the flash drive all through Tivimate and not have to use Explore or similar.

And just out of curiosity,I’m wondering why it’s OK to mention programs like Kodi and builds for it, Cinima HD etc. but not an unverified IPTV. It’s seems they do pretty much the same thing… hope that’s not a stupid question.

The shield offers the opportunity to format your flashdrive for removeable storage(recording). I have a 256GB Samsung SSD in a USB housing that works flawlessly for me for recording from TiViMate.
Kodi, in and of itself does not contain any content. You add what you want, and if that is illegal content then that’s your business. Unverified IPTV supplies content that IS illegal.

For live TV (IPTV), Tivimate Premium is the best out there, no question. However, I know when people try to record from it, sometimes they don’t have the best results. You could always start and then maybe even consider something like Sparkle player just for the recordings, which seems to have better feedback on the recording side. Just my thoughts, but I think you are well on your way to cutting the cord.

Kodi is 100% a legal app, it is what people do with it that creeps into the gray area. Cinema and other VOD apks are fine also until they stream illegal content, so to mention their name is fine, just not any of the unverified/illegal content by name.

Thank you …so when I open the shield and look at storage, find my flash drive, I will have an option to format? I was going to format the usb in my computer before install…but if this is a better way, I’ll do it. Thanks …

Thank you for clarifying the reasons for mentioning certain apks by name. I will look into the players tha may be better fr recording .as I mentioned, probably won’t do much recording. I’m OK watching a show the next day on Stremio, but I still would like the ability to record if I choose. Thanks for your input …

When you have your shield running and plug your USB drive into the port directly beside the hdmi port you will have popups letting you know what is going on. If you missed the opportunity to erase and format as removeable storage then go into settings>Device Preferences>Storage>click on your USB drive and you will be given the opportunity to format as removeable storage. This is also where you can click on the drive and chose to eject it to watch what ever you recorded on another device or wherever you choose.

The initial shock of canceling cable is the hardest. It is all down hill after that, just come back here when you need help! :+1:

I wouldn’t format the USB in fat32 because fat32 has a maximum file size of 5gb and anything over that won’t be able to be saved on there. I had an Nvidia shield pro and I sold it and upgraded to a Ugoos AM8 Pro, it’s heaps faster and more powerful so maybe look into that.

I had an Nvidia shield at one time. Finally got rid of it because it would not work with streaming. I was constantly fighting with the VPN and other issues. It also froze up a lot.
I highly recommend just getting a dedicated streaming device. I highly recommend the Amazon cube and a 512 GB USB flash drive plugged into it for recordings. Once you start recordings, you will record a lot.
Trust me when I tell you, your life will be a lot easier. I’m all about simplicity.

Each of us need to find the best streaming devices for our needs. I gave what was my experience, separate gaming and streaming.
