The UK has some of the harshest laws pertaining to media theft. Every once in awhile a story will pop uo about some being arrested for this. They take this very seriously. Now, after saying that the ones they really go after are the illegal resellers of content. If they find someone that doesn’t have the license to ecieve content they usually blackmail them to give up their source. Not even sure if you can get OTA in the UK
Italy, UK and Brazil have rabid fans of their highest level soccer leagues.
They are what drive subscription TV demand and profits. So it’s not surprising that some of the big pirating stories originate from the soccer-mad parts of the world.
I think it’s a crock myself. Definitely not prison time and if anything to the end user possibly a fine. Users need not worry. All were doing if watching programs that are already available on the Web. The providers that offer these services could possibly get involved in a civil matter due to copyright laws but even then if they’re mearly pulling what’s available and organizing it on their platform I don’t think they stand to lose too much. Maybe some countries are stricter on both sides but in the US I don’t see it going anywhere for either party?
Not all countries are the same Mruser.
I agree and that’s why I said maybe in some countries. The UK I think is pretty bad but they’re also much better about protecting user data than the the US who is quite the opposite.
We are exposed to YouTube regulations and being defunded. I’m not on YouTube’s payroll, so kick rocks. ISPs can cancel your service, so use a VPN or get another service.
YouTube can’t fine or imprison me and if your ISP wants to write me a letter it needs to be “Certified Return Receipt Requested” or it didn’t happen. The laws and rules for casual viewers and forum participants are different from those who provide forums and unverified content, in the USA.
For much, if not most, of the population of the US don’t have viable alternatives when it comes to ISPs.
So not having your ISP cancelled can be a big deal.
Yes that would be a big deal. Use a VPN of course. My point is that of fear running afoul of the law. ISPs and YouTube do not make laws. What you can or cannot watch is not as clearly defined under law as what you can sell or publish. YouTubers constantly fear YouTube and speak about those fears. I have no fear of watching. Their fears are not mine.
Hence, a backup plan…Elon’s Starlink.
Yep, but Starlink is very expensive.
LOL…have you ever heard of lobbyists? They may not have a vote on the
House floor, but they do have a BIG say in the matter!
The thought of this House passing ANY new law is laughable s
