Coffee Discussion

hahah touche Miki

I bet his teeth had some staining with that combo :grimacing:!

That sucker looks ROBUST!

@JerryJ, I believe you. I have a white kitchen sink that I have to bleach after strong tea stains it. Coffee doesn’t do it. The staining from tea is immediate. I like tea, but I rarely drink it anymore. The older I get the more I worry about kidney stones. I’ve seen (strong) grown men cry from them. Those guys along with a doc’s warning changed my mind. They’ll have to pry the coffee from my cold dead hands tho.

@itzme , man I miss those Winstons that you mentioned…it has been almost 24 years. I had to stop drinking coffee for a while when I kicked the smokes. Wow

Thanks for sharing. I plan to give it a try. I have been drinking FireDeptCoffee, Black Cherry Bourbon which I found at Walmart.

When I worked graveyard shift, I would drink a pot before I left for work and another pot once I got there.

I had me a cup of Fire Dept cofee today. Seen it on Amazon and said…what the hey…ill try it also - Pretty Good Stuff so glad I bought it! I like to have a variety of brands on hand, even the Bustello espresso stuff. I call myself ā€œcraftingā€ my own blends by mixing different kinds together prior to brewing my cup. Just something to tinker with prior to starting my day. But all the ā€œblendsā€ ive tried together does not come close to how good Juniper Mountain is. I promise yall…if it were not that good I would not keep harping on it. the ā€œBourbon Barrell Agedā€ and ā€œPathfinderā€ are my favorites so far.

You’ve got my attention on the Bourbon Aged BUT one huge question. Does it taste AT ALL like Bourbon? I got violently ill on Seagrams Crown Royal in high school, like almost death, and the smell of anything ā€œwhiskeyā€ like still turns my tummy. I quit drinking altogether in 1995 which was a good thing. Please advise @Reece. I’d probably try a 3 variety pack. Thanks.

Not too much a Bourbon ā€œFlavorā€ but you can tell those beans have been there…co-mingelating (Southern Term!) with the aromatic remnants of what that barrell once contained…it does have the nice smokey-oak hints to it. Robust and Smooth. Surely worth a splurge as it is kinda expensive. When my current bag o’beans run out, i’ll wait till my other ā€œvarietiesā€ are depleted before I buy it again. But I WILL buy it again.

At $24 for 12 oz, it better be great.

BTW, what is everyone using to grind the whole beans. I’ve been using Kitchen Aide grinder with the chopping blades for forever. But read that a burr grinder is the cat meow. I had a top rated one on my Amazon list. But started thinking that one I’m using is serving it’s purpose and saved myself $60.

I have a blade grinder, but experts say they generate heat which damages the flavor. Now I’m on the lookout for a burr grinder as well. Don’t want to waste any beans at $23cdn for 1 LB.

back in November I bought a Cuisinart Coffee Maker with a built in grinder. It’s meh…just ok, but im looking to upgrade. I only drink at most 2 cups a day so when I decide on fresh beans, I use a hand grinder. Got me one of these Conical Burr hand grinders on Amazon

Less than 25bucks US shipped. Its a ā€œCevingā€ brand. Works great for the occasional times I use it.

I use the oxo burr coffee grinder. Got it off Amazon a few years ago. Never had an issue with it.

The grinder is CRITICAL to great coffee. I have a Baratza Vario and it’s a beast. Mine is about 10 years old but it kicks rear end. Baratza rebuilt it last year for like $185 and it’ll run forever. I’ll spend $500 on a great grinder all day long but spend hours trying to find cheapo or free deals like Amazon Prime and Audible .It’s all about our priorities. $500 for a grinder isn’t needed for coffee but a great grinder is essential when pulling magnificent chocolatey shots with an expensive espresso machine.

Well I didnt spend that much….but too much anyway Amazon.com: MOKKOM Professional 64mm Flat Burr Coffee Grinder with 100 Grind Settings, All-Metal Stainless Steel Body, Coffee Bean Grinder with Adjustable Electronic Timer, Anti-Static, LED Display : Home & Kitchen

This one is on the Geek List and probably would good for all non espresso brews like coffee. $89 per that review. $109 on Amazon now.

@GraceWilson , this is from the other thread, an i didn’t wan’t to hijack it there so here it is….

ā€œI guess I don’t understand why these developers keep developing player after player when there are already a ton of them on the market. Many of them really good. The player only gets ā€œso goodā€ and does all the stuff that the other players do. Perhaps I’m not insightful enough to appreciate each developers attempt to make the next ā€œnewer & betterā€ player.ā€

i think they somehow stumbled upon this coffee discussion and thought….If i can get these Caffeine (a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant of the methylxanthine class and is the most commonly consumed psychoactive substance globally) Addicts, i mean ā€œConnoisseursā€ hooked on a New IPTV player with a few neato new tricks (that no other player has) for ā€˜free’ and THEN add the features i been keeping secret and everything works flawlessly for a few bucks, THEN maybe i can get me one of those fancy dancy $500 grinders and see what all the fuss is about….

Very interesting thread, I’ve been a tea drinker for over 45 years and decided yesterday, no more. Sick of the stains on everything, spoons, cups, stainless steel Yeti’s and yes, teeth. Not to mention all the talk about kidney stones. My wife would love this thread cause she loves coffee and is always grinding beans of all different varieties and looking for something new. From now on it’s only coffee for me but you guys are all making it way to difficult.
