Coffee Discussion

Yup, I get the big container from sam’s, but wen I open a new one it goes into about 6 quart mason jars …. kinda pain an i always spill a little but it does help it stay freshener longer

There’s a tiny bit of geek deep inside if you go to the trouble of putting it in mason jars!

That is another thought on the “stale” issue. I never buy anything in grounds, only beans. The flavor & freshness is held within the beans until it’s ground. Never buy already ground coffee if you want freshness for sure. I have had many great coffees, but Beard Vet was the best. Although the website is still there they don’t have any coffee any longer. Fire Dept. Coffee, Freedom Hill Roasters, Blackout coffee are all pretty good, but Fire Dept. is my favorite of these 3. I will be trying others down the road for sure.

I prefer to think of it as thrifty and protecting my investment.

No kidding1 I’D NEVER EVER buy ground coffee. It’s 1 thing if the whole beans go a tad stale but ground coffee should be outlawed.

I may roast again someday. I had a Behmor from Sweet Marias and bought the green beans from them. It was pretty fun thinking back.

I gotta walk the dog. Have a good night everyone.

Am I a coffee geek?

For me using filters and bulk coffee just too much work. Switched to the Kuerig years ago and buy the COSTCO Breakfast Blend PODS in bulk. So much easier

I’m a Peets fan myself sir. Major Dickason dark roast is my go to unless I splurge on some Juniper Mountain Barrell Aged. Thats some good stuff right there now. I was turned on to it by the you-tuber “out of the woods”. What can I say…i’m “eclectic”!!.

I was also using those same pods. Very convenient. I stopped using them when I heard about the micro plastics and other chemicals being leached into the coffee. Also tops of the pods are aluminum . Using OXO Coffee maker now. Still has plastic BPA free parts but probably safer than the thin plastic pods. Still needs to be more research on the subject. Just call me Debbie Downer.

I have a top line keurig and use the recyclable pods from Amazon. I have a grinder for the beans.

As someone who doesn’t use a VPN do you think I believe there is danger from using Costco’s Pods? LOL :joy:

Me? I’m absolutely not a coffee geek.

For over 20 years it’s been San Francisco Bay coffee, bought at Co$tco in the 3 lbs, whole bean French Roast. I grind up about 5 oz and store in the freezer as well as the unground beans. I grind it until it is just a shade under powder. Cuisinart 12 cup unit that I make 8 cups worth and drink every last drop, black with a bit of that toxic stuff Splenda. I actually prefer it after it has cooled off a bit. Not too much caffeine (so no jitters) and doesn’t upset my stomach like i get, most from other coffee. And I’ve found that there really isn’t a taste difference whether I make a pot from a freshly opened bag or the ground coffee that’s been in the freezer for several weeks, which works for me.
