Can't update Firestick OS or factory reset(Firestick 4K)

Anyone else having this issue? I’ve done this numerous times on multiple Firesticks, now I get an “update error” message when trying to update the OS, and when I attempt a factory reset it just continuously bounces me back to the home screen. I couldn’t find anything online, so I finally contacted Amazon, and at the end was literally told “wait 2 or 3 days and then try again”.

Also, not sure if this is related, but neither Prime Video nor IMDB show anywhere on my device anymore. No icons, not showing in installed apps…I can search for them in the app store, they show as owned, but when I click open the screen just refreshes to the search.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please review this for all firestick issues and guides, if the following hasn’t worked feel free to ask.

This should resolve most to all issues.

Unplug everything and rest the stick. Try again later. When you do make sure its getting power from the wall, also it may be overheated.

Hello Troy et al…

I too have two 4K Max sticks, both Gen 1. One has v7.7.0.4, the other v7.6.9.7. Prior to installing the hack on both sticks (which went fine btw, follow all the steps!), I tried to update the stick w/ v7.6.9.7 to v7.7.0.4, but it says the stick is up to date. Confused as to why it won’t update???

Anyway, as mentioned, I’ve installed the hack on both sticks and everything is working fine. Just wish I could get the other stick to update, as the Clear All Cache feature is very convenient. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

BTW, Launcher Manager has updated to v1.1.1 in the Toolbox if anyone is interested. Keep up the great work Troy!

Could be a number of reasons. First try a reboot, then check for updates, or unplug from the TV and power, wait for a minute or two then plug it all back in and try updating. lastly and usually the least likely is to check that there is enough storage, clear all your cache and stop background apps from running, and turn off any active VPN. Then try updating. GL2U.

Yes you are in the same position as I. Just went to check my stick that seems to be stuck on v 7.6.9.7 and it still hasn’t updated. Very frustrating. I have that stick running on the old format not the hack, but I have the hack installed so as soon as I see v7.7.0.4, and see that the prompt for “clear all cache” I can reengage the hack. I’ve been checking twice a day, so far, to no avail. I’m just afraid that on that stick they will go directly to blocking side loading before the update I’m waiting for. That would render that stick useless to me.

Regards

Thanks Miki… I’ve tried all your suggestions and the stick w/ v7.6.9.7 still won’t update. The last step would be a factory reset, but I’m reluctant to do that as I’d have to reinstall and setup all my apps again. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again…

I am out of ideas. If those suggestions didn’t work then I’m not sure why it won’t update. Sorry.

No worries… tried to reply yesterday, but the system said I exceeded my reply limit? Looks like Azamon just blocked it for OS8 anyway, and a patch for OS7 shouldn’t be far behind. I’ve reenabled the hack and will stay on 7.6.9.7 for now. Thanks again…

Well, I bit the bullet (holding my breath) and tried a factory reset on my v7.6.9.7 Max stick. Still won’t update to v7.7.0.4. There must be something with these earlier version Max sticks that prevents them from updating. I re-downloaded and installed the hack apps and everything is working as it should. Oh well, I guess I’m stuck on v7.6.9.7 with this stick.

Searching around, I found this page which lists the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Generation): FireOS @ v7.7.0.4 (33723490436), so I don’t know why my (and other) sticks won’t update. If anyone knows a way to update to v.7.7.0.4, please reply with info. If not, no biggie…
