Can’t decide on a new streaming device

What??? Why would you think BuzzTV devices would contain malware? Yes you can add and use pretty much any app you choose.

Why Ugoos didn’t put the Amlogic S905X5 processor in the SK3 instead of the Rockchip is a bit of a head scratcher when they included the 8 gbs of RAM and 64 bit is enabled. The AM9 will still have everything else except the 8gbs of RAM at a significantly lower price. As Troy said, if you use your box solely for streaming, 8 gbs of RAM over 4 gbs will make no difference unless you are using the device for gaming.

I’m guessing they are going after the gaming/emulation market. They always make decisions I don’t understand. I’m guessing it will lack upscaling and perhaps other features so like you say wouldn’t be much of a benefit to most users and might be a downgrade from the SK1 and AM9/AM9 Pro.

I guess we will know when they get into people’s hands.

I love Ugoos stuff but sometimes their product development and releases are a real head scratcher.:thinking::thinking:

Some time back I decided to separate out any streaming that needed a vpn to a standalone 6K android box, however I have noticed as of late Amazon put a notice up, telling me I would need to remove apps, because I was using too much memory space.

Quite odd given the only thing left on there was the VPN and a program to detect when VPN had stopped.

It was only later that I realised Amazon had done an update that was consuming the memory.

Personally I would buy a cheap box, something like the Onn (can’t get that in the UK) and give it a try.

Going down the route of a more expensive box can lead to you kicking yourself for spending too much.

Yeah, they need to have a clearer overall lineup. I agree with @Iftim that they need fewer boxes. I do not understand having an AM9 and AM0 Pro if the only meaningful difference is Dolby Vision. I hope they don’t price gouge just for DV since $20 boxes have it.

I would say because there are people like myself that use apps other than what you use, that can not be gotten in the play store.

I would say buy what you can afford, if all you can afford is a cheap Onn box from Wally World then buy that, if you have more to spend for a better or different box, but what you find that fits your needs. That is the great thing you can spend $50 and you can spend $300 or anywhere in between.
I see nothing wrong with buying a box that will more than likely continue working as normal if any type of app censoring comes to google.

If you are looking for certified boxes, a few brands to check availability on, Kinhank, MeCool, Ugoos SK2 and the new SK4.

For non certified, depending on budget, the Ugoos SK1, Formuler z11 Pro Max, jump on Aliexpress and look for an H96 or a t95z plus box.

With any of them look for the features you want/need amount of Ram and Storage, number of USB ports, does it have an Sd card slot if you want that, and for me a 1000m ethernet port.

Thomson streaming box plus 270 is the same as the ONN and is available in the UK. Not sure on the price though, I think it is a tad more expensive. TTFN.

@_Mike

Tx @itzme . That works out to just under $59 USD at present. Pretty much double the North American price but still fairly inexpensive for a streaming device. I do wonder about only 2GB of RAM though. I think the Plus 270 is better with 3GB Ram and 32GBs of storage. 69.90 Euros or about $81 US.

yeah @Miki , that’s just the one i found on a quick search

and here’s their official site with all their products listed….:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

your right!! i pushed reset button too hard while trying to solve a problem i was having and it went inside!. contacted Nvidia, and they replaced my 3year old tube for free!! pretty loyal to them now.

I know that some devices out there are known to have malware or suspicious software. As I have never dealt with a BuzzTV device nor have i even heard of them i have not had a chance to research. So are you also saying that it is Netflix certified?

I wouldn’t know I have the BuzzTV P6L Ultimate but I’ve never watched netflix in my entire life. You’ll have to do a search and check.

a quick search shows it is not Netflix or Prime Video Certified. As I get both for free albeit with ad’s I do not think the BuzzTV devices are going to suit my needs. Thank you for your time though. The search continues for a replacement for my Fire Cube. I do have a Shield 2019 (pro) so it’s not the end of the world but the wife does not like it

Definately not good, as Troy mentioned, if you use Netflix a lot. As I mentioned I don’t and never have.

BuzzTV devices are not officially certified by Netflix. While the devices are Google-certified (meaning they can access the Google Play Store), Netflix requires a separate, specific certification for its app to run in high definition.

For Amazon Prime Video, information is less explicit, but typically devices without Netflix certification also lack certification for HD/4K Prime Video streaming due to similar digital rights management (DRM) requirements (Widevine L1). The apps can generally be installed and used, but likely only support standard definition (SD) streaming
