sooo Its a lipstick on a pig sorta thing?.. you are witnessing the difference between rockchip vs amlogic and other than the shield, amlogic usually comes out the winner for iptv.
Nicely put! Yeah, I know its new but it does feel unfinished in many areas. Just been on the official forum and they are at least aware of much of this stuff.
But it should have been released in a more finished state, especially for the price.
A rockchip with that much ram im sure runs hot and it would make more sense to put that into a metal housing (ugoos ut8) type setup. For that price and a plastic housing I was never gona bite
Iâm guessing @buzztvglobal might pop in and comment on the software quirks/bugs that need worked out, but it still bothers me why they wouldnât put internal, active cooling fans inside for the components. The thing is a bohemeth, you have the space, and the box price is astronomically high. One extra investment on Buzzâs end wouldnât have killed the profit in this box for them. These high quality hardware components deserve to be protected from heat for the duration of its life.
Thank you for raising this point! Iâd like to provide some additional context around the design choices we made for the P6, particularly regarding cooling and thermal management.
When we designed the P6, we deviated from the traditional approach where the PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) is typically mounted on the bottom of the housing. Instead, we opted to mount the PCBA in the middle of the P6 housing. This unique design choice, along with the extensive venting incorporated into the housing, ensures excellent airflow on both sides of the PCBA, effectively managing heat dissipation.
Moreover, we included additional layers of copper in the PCBA to further mitigate any concerns related to temperature rise. This careful consideration, combined with our comprehensive Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) conducted during the early stages of the mechanical design, confirmed that our approach was more than sufficient to address any heat or product lifecycle concerns.
While we did consider the inclusion of an internal cooling fan, our extensive testing showed that the P6 operates well within safe temperature ranges, even during extended gaming sessions. The P6 doesnât exceed 55°C under heavy use, ensuring the high-quality components are protected for the duration of the productâs life.
I hope this provides a clearer understanding of the thought and engineering behind the P6âs design choices.
We appreciate your insights, as they help us refine and improve our products. The P6 hardware is built with high specs to offer a top-tier experience, and weâre continually working on software updates to fully leverage its capabilities.
The BuzzTV6 platform introduces several new features and enhancements that weâve been developing over the past year. With a new SoC, updated Android OS, and an all-new app built with a modern coding language, weâre focused on creating a versatile and powerful platform.
While the current version of BuzzTV6 is already quite advanced, we recognize that thereâs always room for improvement. Weâre committed to providing regular updates over the next few months to enhance the overall performance, add more features, and ensure the best possible user experience.
For those who prefer a more familiar experience, we also offer the option to use the BuzzTV5 application, a stable and reliable platform that has been trusted for years.
Thank you again for your feedback. Weâre dedicated to delivering a product that meets and exceeds your expectations, and your input is invaluable in helping us achieve that goal.
Weâve been stress testing the Powerstation P6 for over 8 months, including running intensive games and recording continuously for 24 hours. The P6 is specifically designed to be fanless, with optimized ventilation, PCBA layout, and interior space to ensure proper airflow. In Europe, where a minimum two-year warranty is mandatory, we would never risk designing hardware with potential heat issues.Since 2013, weâve developed over 30 box models, alongside countless OEM models, and we have a proven track record in managing heat effectively. As youâre aware, we already have a metal box, the X5, which isnât ideal for internal hard drive. However, we have designed several plastic housing boxes over the years that support hard drives without any heat issues.
Thank you for the reply. My question right now is what do I do with an expensive box that isnât suitable for the purpose itâs sold for? Canât use it for IPTV, no surround sound and frame rates seem locked in all apps so not really suitable as a high end media streaming box. I didnât buy it to be a beta tester and hope and wait for fixes. It shouldnât have been released in itâs current state.
I get some bugs exist but these are major and defeat the whole purpose of the box. If it were a cheap no name box Iâd partly understand. But not from you, not at this price, it should be better now. Not 2 or months away.
Weâve used Amlogic SoCs in our boxes for years, and it remains our go-to SoC for most of our models. However, our latest model features a Rockchip SoC that surpasses the performance of any current Amlogic processors. While Amlogic offers a high-performance chip with 8GB RAM, itâs limited to the Chinese market, which doesnât suit our needs. As we continue to improve our firmware and applications, youâll see benchmarks in the coming months that highlight the true power and capabilities of this Rockchip processor. Weâre confident this shift will provide an even better experience for our users.
You could contact our support team directly if youâre having issues with your surround sound not working. Itâs working, maybe your box has an older firmware?
Hmmm. Maybe. I noticed some threads on the official forum that said it was coming in the last update (19th) but it wasnât included. Itâs the hdmi pass through that wonât enable. Seems to be a known issue. As a movie quality freak, I like my movies in full 4K, 24fps and Dolby Atmos!
Anyway I realise this isnât a support thread but the box needs some serious bug fixing.
A public update is being rolled out to all P6 boxes today. Some discussions on our support forum involve beta software, which is tested by a select group of users and not included in the updates sent to general public devices.
Ok. Iâll keep an eye on the forum and the updates. Thank you again for the time taken to respond
I agree that rockchips are more powerful than amlogics and do have many other uses my only concern is rockchips are often the âstockâ android system and amlogic are usually better suited for and certified for streaming apps.
EditâŚ
The ugoos brand are offering the amlogic 8gb in the US and other markets. The new SK1 and the older AM8 both have it. jutsta fyi.
Thanks so much for your candid sharing info on the p6. And kudos to the buzztv guy for taking the incoming. It does seem like a beta release for now.
Question or really education for me: I thought the higher fps for iptv the better! 60fps was the best. At lower fps donât you get degradation of the video image and even buffering with fast motion? Why do yo want 24fps? Thanks.
Itâs more for movies. If the file is at 24fps any difference will show juddering / frame drops in some way. It seems on the P6, even if that app supports frame rate switching (emby, tivimate, Streamio) itâs not respected.
New update just hit. Surround sound now working!
for that price point? the more i read about this box? the less i want one
Good to see updates coming out after some real world usage. Good on Buzz TV.
We currently support Automatic Frame Rate (AFR) switching on our Android 9 and 11 boxes. Weâre aware of the need for this feature on our Android 13 devices and are actively working to include it in a future update. We appreciate your patience and continued support.
