Bluetooth keyboards for Firesticks?

I’ve grown tired of entering lengthy URLs (and then finding I’ve made a mistake early in the URL; and I have to delete everything and start over :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I’d benefit from a wireless keyboard

However, a quick Amazon search for firestick keyboard brings up a bunch of products that – may not even work.

Does anyone use a keyboard? How does it connect? (I have the 4K firestick). Any recommendations? Not looking for state-of-the-art/all the bells and whistles; so would love for it to be under $25.

(If you’re sending Amazon links - I’m in Canada; so the products you see; may not be the ones I can get)

Thanks!

I just use a cheap Rii mini keyboard with a 2.4 GHz dongle plugged into an OTG cable connected to my 4K Max. Works like a dream. This is the more expensive model but there are dozens of different cheap ones out there for around $15.

You can use the FireTV app on your phone/table - it has a keyboard.

So - anything that is “Android” compatible will work, I guess? How does the OTG cable connect (I think that’s where my brain is failing!).

On The Go cables are just an inline cable to add a USB port. So your power cable plugs into the female micro usb port and then the male micro usb plug, of the OTG cable, goes into your stick. That leaves the USB port for peripherals. As I tend to experiment more than most I much preferred a Powered OTG hub, as I could then add a dongle for a mini keyboard, a USB drive, and ethernet as well. Use the site search and you will find all sorts of user experiences and suggestions, not to mention valuable tutorials by Troy hinself.

You can get a Rii keyboard remote that’s Bluetooth - and just connect natively via BT.

But the OTG’s are cheaper – no? So, the keyboard connects via USB (and you have one USB (in) for the keyboard; and one (out) for power)?

Technology always blows me away! :stuck_out_tongue:

OTG cables are cheaper but also limit your options. Use the link to Troy’s guide and all your answers are there.

I know this is not the place to ask, but I still can’t post a new topic and it’s been over 24 hours and I received an email saying that I could now start posting. Im having FireStick problems and hope I can figure it out before my return date expires.

Well you posted here so you can definitely post.

So - with an OTG cable, I’m presuming, there’s a USB running from the keyboard to the dongle

And, bluetooth, would - obviously - not have that.

So, something like this would work?

Troy’s guide mentions the Rii – but, honestly, every one looks exactly the same (I wonder if it’s a single manufacture; and then just private labeled for each company).

(Or this one - which is even cheaper (but looks like, maybe, it replaces the entire remote?)

That might be a great deal – I have a Firestick that works with a remote that is shot - I would free up a remote this way

no. the dongle plugs into the USB port and the wireless Keyboard is 2.4Ghz and the keyboard transmits to the dongle which is the receiver.

Ah … ok. But the bluetooth ones have more functionality?

So, that second one I listed is $30 (after the coupon) - and that would work (no dongle required?)

The advantage to the first one I listed is that - presumably - I can move the keyboard from TV to TV …

I purchased this Bluetooth keyboard and haven’t had any issues as of yet. The best part is it comes with a sleeve to hold the keyboard on one side and your firestick remote on the other. Although the latest firestick remote is too big i still have it in the sleeve just extends at the top a little no big deal for me as it doesn’t interfere with its functionality. It keeps them both together which I prefer.

I use a blutooth keyboard from an old tablet works perfect, hope this helps

No, no more finctionality just different ways of connecting. the one with the dongle always connects easily while the bluetooth you need to pair with the stick. I never moved mine around. The dongle always remained plugged into my powered otg hub and any 2.4Ghz KB could be used. I often had trouble with multiple bluetooth device pairing with the sticks so I preferred my kb used a dongle, it was flawless.

That was the one I was looking at … I didn’t realize it was two pieces (so, you COULD move the keyboard from TV/Remote to TV/Remote)?

OK … so, in that respect, bluetooth is just more expensive

I will need to move my keyboard around; but … for the most part … that just means I move that OTG dongle from TV to TV too?

And, I’d need to purchase an OTG dongle as well, I guess? Maybe the bluetooth isn’t more expensive.

Sounds like – either way – I should be fine. Maybe I do go with that first one I posted ($26.19).

If I understand your question correctly if you wanted to move the keyboard to another tv with a different firestick just pair it in the settings. For me the main selling point was the fact that I can keep them both together and don’t really have to worry about finding any of them separately. Just like @Miki i don’t really move it around so its always paired to the same stick.

Either will work. I just never found the sticks Bluetooth pairing that easy or reliable, but my 4K Max, were a year old and not updated, so improvements may have been applied. Try either way and imho you will love a KB. The ease of typing and a trackpad were amazing for the sticks. Enjoy.
