I guess I’m happy with Surfshark. It’s better than VPN Unlimited which I bought a lifetime deal for maybe 10 years ago for really cheap. Back when VPNs were just getting popular. I don’t have experience with any other VPNs relating to high end streaming to know if there are better values and performance.
Hi all,
My first post ![]()
I just signed up for Surfshark using the offer from Troypoint. I used another VPN before but thought I would give Surfshark ago as it was renewal time. Thanks to this thread I have just removed the auto renewal option. I am defiantly well impressed with the service so far.
Thanks for the heads up! I’m not surprised. I joined Surfshark because I got sucked into the barrage of promos on Troypoint and have regretted it ever since. Auto login on my iPhone simply does not work. Reporting it countless times makes no difference whatsoever. They also kept pestering me to buy their Alt Number product, knowing full well that I was a customer outside the USA yet at no time did they make it absolutely clear in no uncertain terms (or even hint) that it was only useful to US citizens. I’ve reported buffering issues with certain apps several times over several weeks and I just keep getting told to rest assured that they’re working on it. Their less that helpful customer support people sound like bots. Driving me insane by repeatedly trotting out the same old stonewalls they learned in their training.
Everyone has different use cases for VPN and Surfshark has been great for me. When I first got VPN I did a lot of research and found there are complaints like yours for all of the services out there. There is no perfect VPN.
Yeah. I’m the problem. An open and honest VPN is a ridiculous thing to expect.
Don’t like it get a refund. Most VPNs offer 30 day money back guarantee.
I’ve been into Kodi since the start. I started with PIA, went to Expressvpn, then Nord, and now I’m on Surfshark. Best out of all of them because price is right and far less problems than others.
Nord doesn’t have kill switch on Fire TV and the others were much slower for me than Surfshark.
I agree there is no problem free VPN and you need to find what you like best.
Good luck.
But yet here you are…
Sound like you new to VPN. Been using Surfshark for years with autoconnect on my iphone.
Not really. There are many good options out there. Unfortunately in this hobby there simply isn’t one size fits all. I personally love ProtonVPN and have for years. They do have free servers but unfortunately they get overloaded quite easily. Yes it is a tad more expensive but I have a full suite of their products which includes a VPN and I find it exceptional for my needs. SurfShark is extremely inexpensive, has unlimited connections, for one low price, and for this hobby is quite adequate for basic streaming. Like everything you don’t just jump in after watching an ad but must do research. Read, read and then read some more. This is a basic life lesson that I learned many many years ago. Yes I am as old as dirt, but I love being dirty.
Yep same here I’ve just renewed with Proton again. This time I took the 24m option which makes it better value for something I’ve used for a few years now and which I’m happy and confident with. The extended cost works out at £42 /annum less than £1/week. Not only used for streaming but across all my devices.
Due to the extremely high praise from Troy I purchased a 3 year subscription to Surfshark (SS). Overall I was pleased. It replaced CyberGhost and Norton which I was having numerous problems with.
Fine, all ok. Then out of the blue and after a full year of SS usage SS AV suddenly ‘found’ various files within software I had been using for years to run my business. These files were automatically quarantined by SS. My business software no longer worked and all attempts to restore the quarantined files failed. This was software that had been on my machine for YEARS and was all totally safe. NOTHING had changed from my software side.
The net result was this cost me over $27’000 worth of business I had been working months on.
Of course I immediately contacted SS and was informed they would look at this. I explained to SS that this was top urgent since I only had 48 hours to complete my business deal.
After sending SS various logs and after several days, by which time my customer had cancelled and gone elsewhere I finally got a response from SS basically says sorry, tough but sorry. NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Needless to say I will not be using SS ever again after my current subscription expires.
BUYERS BEWARE.
You might want to try ExpressVPN. More expensive but very dependable. I’ve had it for over 6 years with absolutely no problems.
Hello, sorry to hear about your problems but we have never recommended Surfshark Antivirus. VPN yes but Antivirus no.
Our #1 ranked antivirus is VIPRE and has been for a long time.
Not a big fan when these companies try to be good at everything when they should focus on what got them to where they are, and for Surfshark, that’s their VPN.
I also tried SS for a second time to try the anonymous email option. Since when I went for an anonymous email there were not any for Canada addresses I applied for a refund as well. They would not refund as it was my second trial. That was not conveyed to me anywhere on their site when I signed up. That was a big selling point by Troy to apply for a rebate if not happy with the SS service.
Thanks mate. Yes I am aware of ExpressVPN. I chose SS because of unlimited devices and the AV software which Express does not have.
I will try it once my SS subscription expires.
@FreeBeer please see the notice, that Troy posted above, regarding Anti-virus recommendations.
Cant blame ss for doing this. If they didnt people could get ongoing free service by doing exactly what you did. Get a ss account, wait 29 days, get a refund register again wait another 29 days get a refund and the cycle continues. Do they really need to spell this policy out on their site?
I purchased a two year subscription for Surf Shark. Three months into using it I got a email saying that I violated their rules but they never said what rules I might have violated. They would not respond to my email and they canceled my subscription and would not refund any of my two year payment. This is ridiculous and I would suggest that no one should have to experience this kind of unprofessional service from a company that is so highly recommended by Troy.
Hello, please send me an email at mail@troypoint.com with the email that you used to register for your account with and I will get to the bottom of this. This isn’t regular occurrence because if it were we would hear about it more often on this site.
Since this was posted on our forum I also want to show Surfshark’s reply regarding this so others understand there may have been a misunderstanding.
Hey Troy,
Hope you had a good weekend!
I checked with our support team, and they confirmed that the user is not terminated, but he cannot receive a refund because he is outside the 30-day money-back guarantee period, and we can only issue one refund per product (they mentioned that he has already received a refund in the past).
They will contact him again to confirm this.
