Background Apps & Process List

Agree.I have it on my Google ONN.

Good morning Miki,
Even more than that, I realized yesterday that even the home screen of the Onn changes based on where your VPN is set. If you set it to a USA server, now an option that works shows up called “Live” and it’s not there when your VPN is set to a Canadian server. This really surprised me. Being set to the USA on this (The 4k one as well) has clear advantages.

I found that with the Firesticks when I was programming them. I had ppl buy the US ones and give them to me to program. The US libraries of APPs was far more extensive and diverse.

Later I will take a look at the playstore to see if it’s different based on where they think I am. The OS on the Onn is clearly paying attention and changing it’s abilities based on location. On a USA server the top line is Profile, For you, Live, Apps and Library. The moment you change it to a Canadian server it changes to Profile, For you, Movies, Shows, Apps, Library.

You lose the Live TV option that works perfectly when set to the USA. Imagine that.

Sounds about right. The nonsense with different content from US to Canada when purchasing sticks either with Canadian serial #'s or US ones, along with the disabling of ADB 3rd party app use, finally sealed the fate of Amazon for me. Google also seems to be heading in much the same direction. But this hobby is always evolving. Ya never know what’s next.

Strange but there has been zero posts on here since early morning. This happened once before. Is there a problem or just a light day? I hope you’re well.

I go into the hospital on Wednesday. Yes it has been very quiet, again. Be well Wiz.

Good morning Miki, I’m very sorry to hear that and if memory serves me correct you were also in before you returned to Canada. I hope it’s not anything serious and that you are out sooner rather than later. Take care and keep in touch.

It absolutely IS compatible on Android-TV/Google-TV streamers (and ONN devices, specifically), as well as FireOS devices.

TL;DR (see first link below for latest version!)

As has been mentioned, the ‘BA&PL’ app works equally well on both FireOS and the ONN streamers.

For whatever reason, it is NOT currently available from the ONN’s ‘Google-TV’ PLAYSTORE (the full-version, accessible via voice request or Settings). I haven’t had my ONN devices that long, so I don’t know if it ever was earlier, but the impression I get is that it was.

Anyway, there have been a few links/sources mentioned in the thread and these WILL get you a workable version of ‘BA&PL’ … but I checked and noticed that NONE of them are the most current version (even the link given to the Developer’s github ‘appstore’ by commenter, ‘mrtoo’ is NOT the latest one … though I don’t know why the developer hasn’t updated it at that location?).

I have been in email contact with the developer on occasion (because of problems with Amazon dropping the ball on updates to this particular app in their AppStore) and he provided me with his specific Github website page to always get the latest version of his app.

Just use the Downloader App (or any other browser capable of downloading). Just make sure they have been given the permission to download apps from ‘unknown sources’ (obviously). It is as follows …

*I would ‘Favorite’ this page IMMEDIATELY, so you never have to remember it the next time a new version is required (a message generally pops up in the app, itself, at those times).

Then just scroll down a bit and under ‘Assets’, click on ‘app-release.apk’ (the FIRST of 3 items in blue type). This version was posted only two days ago (and is Version ‘1.3A21i’).

This will install on your streaming devices in the normal fashion (don’t forget to delete the ‘installation file’), showing up at the end of your ‘apps listing’.

However, on your Android smartphone, it generally will go to your ‘Download’ folder, where you just click on it to install (the icon showing up on your right-most screen, per usual).

*The oddest thing is that what prompted me to contact the developer (N K Vishnu, aka ‘visnkmr’) initially, is that Amazon had NOT been posting his updates properly in the Amazon AppStore since Version ‘12’!! He had contacted them about the issue, but was obviously being ignored (as the last time I checked … when version ‘17’ was issued … the Amazon store version was still not working properly)! N.K. even commented about this in a highlighted box on the following Github page …

Well, just out of curiosity, I checked the Amazon Appstore TODAY (12/3/25). Tried clicking on it to read current info, but it just flashed me back to my already installed app. Just to test, I uninstalled mine then went back to the AppStore and it actually installed a WORKING VERSION onto my FireStick!

Turned out it was Version ‘1.3A20i’ (one version PRIOR to the one I had from Github), but to be fair, it had only been posted two days ago AND even the one on Amazon had notations from N.K. that he was 'beta testing some enhancements … ’ (etc).

So, apparently Amazon finally ‘pulled their heads out’ and are updating this simple (but great) free, utility app again!

Again, sorry for the length! :sob:

Hi, I’m setting up a friend’s Onn device and I’m looking for the app Background Apps and Process List to close background running apps. I know it’s on Amazon’s appstore, but I can’t access that on an Onn device and the Playstore has it for phones but not for streaming devices apparently because I can’t find it. I have looked everywhere. Does anyone know where I can find it?

I use the tduk app killer app on my Onn. It works well. I thinks it $2 or so but worth it for me.

There should be some discussions on tp about it. The developer has been on here before and may be able to answer questions for you.

Does this app do something different than FAST TASK KILLER?

I would like to know that as well. I saw it on Troy’s toolbox, not exactly sure what it does.

Background apps and process list lists all the background apps running and then you have to choose which apps you want to force stop and clear cache.
Fast Task Killer is an app that allows you to improve the performance of your Android device with a single touch. You need to tap on the application icon to instantly free up memory on your device and speed up its operation. How does it do this? Very simple. The app will forcibly kill all processes running in the background that are not vital to the operation of the device itself. This means that if you have several social networking apps or games in the background, it will close them instantly.
