“You only need one thing to automate power cycling your router and modem: a high-quality smart plug. We emphasize the high-quality part here not because the electrical demands of home network gear are high but because cheap smart plugs often lack a crucial component: an internal memory cache to retain schedules and timer settings. After all, you don’t want a smart plug that turns the router off (and turns the Wi-Fi off with it), but then can’t turn it back on.”
You mean to tell me that if TVimate in the middle of a recording you shut off your box that the recording will keep on recording? I don’t know why this is pointing at my avatar!
Just stop. The question has been answered. I don’t give a crap about recordings. They don’t record anything. I programmed a kill switch button to force close whatever app is currently open. And I hooked up the box to a master controlled surge protector. Problem solved. Whatever squabbles you want to have amongst yourselves, please do it in DMs.
You can just install superfreez who is in the f-droid store and try it out the app will use accessibility function to force stop all apk’s running on your device in one single click.
You will lose recordings in progress or any scheduled or upcoming recording while your system is totally disconnected from the power source.
However, once your connections have been restored. Then any previous scheduled or upcoming recording will still be recorded at your designated time and date. That info is retained within Tivimate.
So, if you have entire power recycle system set to disconnect at 2:00 A.M. and reconnect at 2:01 A.M. Then unless you have an active recording happening at that one-minute time interval. Then nothing will be disrupted or changed.
You cannot record anything while you have no power to your devices.
Bottomline, yes you can still do scheduled and upcoming recordings, except while the power to your devices are totally disconnected. That is why you should do your power recycling during a time period when you won’t be using your devices.
You don’t lose recordings. You only lose the ability record during the 60 second power recycle period. So just don’t schedule a recording for those 60 seconds.
I know some of you aren’t interested and it’s not exactly an easy approach to force closing a single app but it’s the most efficient I’ve found and with this app there’s a plethora of possibilities that are all dependent on your imagination. Basically no limits but it does require some basic programming knowledge. I’m sure everyone has at least heard of Tasker. I use Chromecast with Google TV so I have to side load the direct purchase version which requires a license available through Patreon for $4. You’ll have to enable debugging in developer options but it defaults to tcp port 5555 which is what Tasker uses for its ADB Wi-Fi functions.
I solved this by creating a task that will first scan the which apps you want to include by a number of different options. I choose to scan by order of last used and set the value to 0 which is the current app in the foreground.
I use a 500 millisecond delay then use it’s ADB Wi-Fi function to force kill the app package.
I use button mapper to reprogram long pressing the Home button to run the task and it efficiently completely force closes or rather kills the app. If you want to do this every time then you would never have any background user apps running.
Of course you wouldn’t want to do that if you need the app running to, for example, record an upcoming program but you get the point. In this case just press home as normal.
I’m know this has been resolved but I’m merely suggesting a program that can resolve pretty much any issue you’re having and can the same thing plus so much more than any other app available.
