Auto force close single app

Before I even ask the question I’m going to say this. Please don’t tell me about the TDUK app or background and processes app or any of those I already know about.

I would like to know if anyone has come across a way to force a single app to force close when you exit it? My parents have a limit on their high speed data and Tivimate continues to run in the background when you exit it unless you force close it. The problem is that they don’t always remember to force close it.

Not sure of an app to force stop app on close but one method to save data is a smart plug to disable the box at a certain time.

Bear with me, I know I’m close. TV Quick Actions Pro has a trigger/action function. My “Action” set to “force stop foreground app”, my trigger is when “app moves to background” (Tivimate). Checking it with my App Killer (that I’m not allowed to mention lol), it does seem like it force stops it when I back out of Tivimate.

Don’t know if this is good for streaming devices but I use it on everything else. Once setup to close designated apps you can use a widget to tap to perform the task.

Just go to your app’s menu in settings, select an app and force close it.

Sheild Pro: Settings>Apps>All Apps>(select an app)>Force Close

However, even though you may not care for TDUK App Killer. It is the easiest and fastest way to Force close an app. Using Background apps and Process list does nothing more efficient than you going into your settings. It just opens your settings for you and you do the rest.

When I exit out of Tivimate and return to my home screen the TDUK App Kill and Cache Cleaner are right next to my Tivimate app. One click and done!

If Jayhawk’s parents are like my Mom, we likely are going to need to automate it if at all possible. My Mom would forget to do this 90% of the time lol.

Hey @Jayhawks659 what device is this on? I’ll have to dig around in my settings but I remember seeing a setting to stop background app activity when app is shut down. I just have to play around and find it.
Ok I think I may have found it. In Developer options go to Apps and enable “Don’t keep activities” now I’ll have to research what exactly that does but there is also “Background process limit” you can play with.

The following is for the Don’t keep activities:>>

With this setting you can simulate the behavior that the system kills a background activity due to memory issues. That could happen sometimes when your live app is in use for a while but it might not happen in your development testing. This feature will just kill every activity that you close right away.

Now on the shield you can go to settings>Remotes & accessories>Customize Menu (hamburger) button then you have three types of clicks>Short Press/Hold/Double Press and if you quick click(Short Press) on say “Hold” a long list of options open up, one of which is “Close all background apps”. But then they have to remember to long press on hold before shutting the device down. That’s why I thought the Dev Options may be more along the lines of what you’re after.

You could put the entire system on a mechanical timer to completely shutdown everything when they go to bed and have it wake up when they get up in the morning.

…or just wire the device into a light switch and toggle on and off. lol

Btw, when you exit out of Tivimate. Then you are no longer streaming anything. The app may be running in the background, but NO data is streaming. Unless you don’t exit and just power off (sleep) device while a program is playing.

Also, you can set Tivimate to exit on a single click of the back button instead of a double click.

Could you map a button to force close and app using Button Mapper?

I just looked now in Button Mapper and there are several possibilities to maybe a map a button to shut down stuff. Check it out and see.

If it was a Buzz box, hit home button twice and it closes all running background apps.

$3.99 and looks very promising.

Sir, you are the best! Going to test this out later when no one is watching anything. Thank you.

This is on the new Onn Pro box. I’m going to try the suggestion @AMD237 made above later and if it doesn’t work, I’ll look into your suggestion. Thanks guys!

That looks great :+1:

Ya you can activate developer options on the ONN I hope. Lots of ideas here GL2U.

I’m interested in the “Change TV Input” feature. If it means I can go from TV UI to Shield UI with a click. Then I’m in!

EDIT:
Messing with this stuff and a bit of researching I found a couple of ways to switch between my Sheild and TV.

The best way for me right now is to use the Samsung SmartThing app on my phone. It acts pretty much like the Shield TV Remote app, but with the ability to switch from Shield to TV.

I’m assuming this app only works with a Samsung TV and most likely a Samsung phone, which is what I have.

However, I am going to install the TV Quick app and give it a spin around the block.

I’m glad someone else finally found the usefulness of TV Quick Actions Pro. Seems like it has so much untapped potential. Kudos AMD237!

I’ve never found a Force close all open apps app that actually worked. After using them they all show still running in android apps setting. I just force close them individually in android settings. I never really use more than 3 apps. Although that might not be practical for your parents. Hopefully someone knows of an app that actually closes all the apps.

A long time ago when I used FS. I plugged the FS power into the TV’s usb port. Then I would set the sleep timer on the tv and when the TV turned off all power to the FS shut off.

Not certain about your specific question. However, when you do a scheduled recording for a program. You can have your TV off and device off. They just go into sleep mode.

So, if you powered off your device while a program is still active. Then I wonder if the program is still playing even though you have powered off your tv.
It would be easy enough to check and find out.

TDUK’s App Killer the only one that I have used that actually worked. This was just the single app and I was itching to test out the functions of TV Quick Actions Pro lol.
