I am down for that.
Thanx, Miki! Iāll be very interested in learning what you find out! In the meantime, Iām going to have to review Troyās reviews on alternatives to the Fire TV devices and figure out where Iām going. Iāve always had a penchant for Nvidia, but thereās been a plethora of devices that hit the market in the past year or so! Iām definitely open to recommendations.
As you say there are so many devices the offerings have never been better. From the Onn, to the Ugoos, to the Buzz TV, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. I have the Ugoos SK1 and the nVidia Shield Pro 2019 but finally settled on the Buzz P6L 256 as my main streamer. Huge ram and great storage. Oh ya I almost forgot the P6L is a 64 bit functioning OS. So when you can, install the 64Bit apps, they work better, and integrate flawlessly. Take your time, set a budget, and do your research.
As for the occassional sound issue in Stremio it seems to be a reoccurring issue. I have switched from the exo player to the libVLT player and that seems to have fixed it.
A 64-bit system is generally better than a 32-bit system for streaming due to its ability to handle larger amounts of memory. This is particularly beneficial for resource-intensive tasks like video encoding and handling numerous sources in streaming software like OBS. While 32-bit applications are limited to around 2-4 GB of RAM, 64-bit applications can utilize significantly more memory, leading to smoother performance and reduced crashes when dealing with complex streams. The Buzz has 32GBs of ram. Kodi runs as smooth as silk as do all the apps I installed and I definately notice the difference over other devices with much less RAM. This beast is fast.
I think you meant ālibVLCā, which is probably a fork of the open source player āVLCā.
There are so many audio formats out there that itās not a surprise that a player would fail on some streams. VLC handles just about anything. Kodi handles even more.
Tx. You are correct it is libVLC. It is one of the selections native to Stremio. My understanding is itās the core engine. Here is from Videolan.
libVLC is the core engine and the interface to the multimedia framework on which VLC media player is based.
Ahhā¦so I had it ass backwards; VLC is derived from libVLC.
@iwhite52 The Buzz tv P6 doesnāt support Dolby vision if that is something that you need.
You only really need 64bit os if you are going to use gaming emulators.
For streaming there is no advantage in real time with 64bit os as streaming apps are pretty light and donāt need large amounts of ram.
While I feared this would happen, actually sooner, it doesnāt seem to be hitting the popular āCinemaā and Bee TV, etc (though āCinema HQā was listed, is this different? Mine is still working). But Amazonās revenue is through two sources on streaming. . their Prime Video and sales of Firesticks. While Roku has taken over the popularity on streaming devices, they canāt be side-loaded as Firestick can. . this is what made if first popular. So if Amazon wants to increase sales of firesticks they need to back off this blocking of apps that can load āpay per viewā streams even from Prime. I donāt think blocking apps is going to improve their Prime Video streaming service?
I hope you managed to get it sorted
I ended up getting a Homatics BOX R 4K Plus itās just arrived now so Iāll have fun getting it set up. Iāll probably be on here asking for loads of help ![]()
One thing is for certain Iām never buying another Amazon streaming device
The only app I used regularly that is still blocked by Amazon is FlixVision. LiveNet TV was blocked for a while but the developers appear to have removed (or hidden) the offending resource sharing functions and the 1.7.9 version is working fine on the firestick again.
Of my friends, family and acquaintances nearly nobody sideloads, unlocks or ājailbreaksā their devices. The one that does goes to a local guy near Myrtle Beach and pays him.
I donāt think anyone at Amazon is losing sleep by their actions to lock down Fire devices.
We remain a pretty small consumer base. Itās to our advantage that it remains that way.
Thatās how I paid for my 4 yr stay in Mexico. Programming firesticks for the tourists to use. Havenāt programmed even one since I got back home. I actually disposed of 6 4K Max that I brought back, and destroyed my personal 4K.
Agree that āweā side-loaders are a small consumer base, but every $1they can earn is there upside, and maybe āworthā losing some of our ānew purchasesā to upgrade our devices. But the down side is competiton of low end side-loaded-capable devices like Onn. So far they donāt seem to be hitting popular sites like Cinema?
I have a clone version of Flix vision from a rival site that I found out of desperation. Its working fine, but unfortunately, I donāt think Iām able to post the site name here. That said I am now looking to move away from the firestick. Im in the UK, anyone have any information on what is available over here at a reasonable price . The UK is usaully lagging behind everyone else in the world
