It was for Flixvision version 3.0. Unfortunately for me it has now been deleted by Amazon so it’s back to the drawing board.
There are a couple of apps that have been updated and have removed the malicious code.from their apps, cinema hq and ukturks.
Im in the uk and I have ditched the firestick and purchased a Strong S3 google tv box which was very easy to set up for £34 on Amazon prime day. So worth a look
Your fix for AMAZON blocking 3rd party apps doesn’t work because there is no "Manage Sharing from App listed:
“Manage Sharing from Apps” and you can find it within Settings by opening Preferences > Privacy Settings > Manage Sharing from Apps > Share App Viewing and Content Info and turning this to Off.
You will find that setting on the updated firmware however it is no longer working. The quote in the article was…
Some have claimed that disabling a new Privacy Setting will disable the Harmful App Blockade but this has not worked for us.
The Setting is called “Manage Sharing from Apps” and you can find it within Settings by opening Preferences > Privacy Settings > Manage Sharing from Apps > Share App Viewing and Content Info and turning this to Off.
The keyword here is “some”.
I have the latest Fire OS and that Privacy Setting =Manage Sharing from Apps doesn’t exist do I could not try it. I was forced to uninstall LiveNet TV
@ajwdct, welcome to the Insider!
A very large portion of the folks on this site have been avid Fire Stick users for years. But it’s sad to say, but the Fire Stick has worn out its’ welcome and it’s time to move on. In the streaming world, nothing is set in concrete. And it can evolve fairly quickly.
If you do a search, you may find that the ONN streaming products have been a new go-to for streaming lately. And there is a plethora of other options at varying price points.
Then why did they not just simply block all 3rd party apps?? Why only the malware ones?
@tampammm, this is a quote from BigDave, in another thread, which I think sums things up.
I’m using an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max and on Fire OS 8.1.4.0.
Here is pic of that setting.
Maybe you are using a Fire TV device that isn’t capable of running Fire OS 8 which would be one of the older ones?
Either way, unfortunately, it sounds like this isn’t working anymore.
Thanks. I know all this stuff quite intimately already. I actually don’t disagree at all with your interpretation of Amazon’s objective. What I still pretty firmly disagree with is the “how” and “when” of it. I’m still saying they’re not going to do much at all about the existing Android/Fire OS devices out there already. They’ll continue to operate and die out over the next five years or so, while they fully convert all new devices to the strategy you’ve articulated.
Amazon have nothing to gain by someone buying their devices and not using their subscription services.
If they did they wouldn’t be changing the OS to closed off one.
Retail, third party sellers ,AWS and advertising is where they make most of their money.
Subscription services come last.
With their new Vega os they will no longer have to rely on Google’s os and will have full control over the os and how it’s implemented.
what a joke, that’s one way to lose a bunch of customers & money… i’m not sure what the big “scare” is anyways, like the iptv providers being sued and shutting down is pathetic. There’s a reason all the big torrent websites with illegal copyright content are still alive and kicking and that’s because they aren’t dumb enough to host their servers / headquarters in countries where it’s illegal like the USA or Canada… that’d be like cancelling your driver’s license and stop driving because you got a ticket.

Realistically, the people who sideload 3rd part apps probably represent less than 0.01% of firestick customers. We really don’t make a dent in Amazonm’s policy (or finacial) decisions.
Is anyone experiencing issues with Stremio? I tried to watch last night (and again this morning), and I get a message on the screen asking if I have a valid Debrid (Real Debrid) account, which I do - it doesn’t expire for another 4 months. What’s curious is that closed captions (CC) come across the screen, but there’s no picture or sound, just the dialogue.
Is this the result of Amazon’s move to disrupt 3rd party apps that they don’t control? I’m running Fire OS 8.1.4.0 (RS8140/3002). If so, looks like it’s time to say “bye-bye” to Amazon and start using a different device. Any feedback or information that can be provided on this matter is appreciated. Troy, I’d appreciate you weighing in on this as well!
Thanx!
Amazon has not blocked Stremio. I do have one sub that has the 4K streams had a blank screen but has good audio. This is the Sub suppliers fault, not you or the Stremio app. Yes it started last night. I’m checking some blogs to see if there is any info about the issue. So far no definitive answers. FYI I disposed of all the Max 4K I had and no longer use the Fire OS.
Thanks for the ONN streaming recommendation, but the problem is I’m stuck with Amazon as I have 2 Fire TVs and a 3rd TV with a Firestick. I also have an Xfinity Flex streaming box and a Roku stick + the Roku app on Fire TV.
Are there any equivalent alternatives to LiveNet TV which I’ve used for years without any cyber-security threats?
Try StreamFire. No ads and easy to use.
Time to buy a Nvidia Shield. I’ve gone through Roku, Apple TV, and a couple random android boxes before getting the Nvidia Shield. Definitely my favorite streaming device, although it is a bit dated.
