Walmart appears ready to release an updated version of its popular streaming device, the Onn 4K Pro. Recent leaks and reports point to a refreshed model that closely resembles other Google TV devices while keeping the budget-friendly appeal that made the original so popular. Early details suggest this new version, often referred to as the…
I can imagine this will be the most popular device yet and also a great option for those wanting to travel to a winter or summer home, and take their setup with them for convenience.
Good to see they are not making wholesale changes and keeping the low prices.
Well, $60 has crossed an invisible barrier for many folks. Remember the FireTV 4k Max was priced at $60 but only really sold when it was on sale for $35.
Keep in mind guys this is just our guess on the price as we are not sure what it will actually be listed at.
I think that’s a fair guess considering the new price of their other boxes.
With the prices and availability of ram going in the wrong direction for consumers, expect these elevated prices to be the norm. $60 still isn’t bad for a revised Pro that borrows the upgraded SoC from the speedier Plus model. Hopefully, they upgraded the NIC to gigabit.
Just 3 weeks ago, I purchased an Amazon branded 128gb sd card for $18.99. Today, I had to purchase another of the same, now priced at $26.
Anyone pc game? Graphics cards, particularly flagship level with lots of onboard gddr6 ram is mind numbing expensive now.
AI will be the death of us one way or the other lol It’s a shame what it’s doing to pc component prices.
@teehar ….This is a good read….
When a student asks ChatGPT for a nuanced ethical argument and receives an instant, polished response, the brain skips the work.
It’s actually worse than what crypto mining did to gpus a few years ago. With some of the big player names in the ram industry reallocating their production priority to AI companies rather than consumer market segments, prices stay high as demand increases. Micron was a big loss when they decided to exit the consumer market and Samsung and Hynix still manufacture for consumer and enthusiast segments, more than half of they output still goes to the guaranteed purchase flow from AI.
Streaming boxes, as new models are typically upgraded with more system ram and storage memory, their inflated costs get handed down to the consumer buyer.
You come out way better buying SD cards on Temu if you know what to look for. It’s much cheaper
I’ve gotten junk microSD cards from Temu before. Knockoff cards were flashed with bogus capacity identifiers, when benched, proved to be lower capacity and much lower than v30 transfer speeds.
I’ll pass. You may be right…IF you know what is known to be legit, but I don’t play the trial and error method well.
@mthr1 , you are correct….sometimes it is better to go with the companies that specialize in a certain product(maybe even invented it ! )….pay a little extra, and get what you pay for, a quality product that does what iz made for, and most times a better warranty if you have problems….
Upgrading the NIC to a gigabyte is beyond unreasonable. Onn makes their money off hardware alone. They cannot keep the costs down on a device with a gigabyte port
Just heard yesterday, ONN is going up in price.
Troy stated that was most likely in his post at the very top. ![]()
“With the Onn 4K Pro listed at $49.88, we expect the new V2 model to be priced somewhere in the $60 range.”
I’m very much looking forward to the new upgraded onn streaming device. I presently, own 1-2 of each of the ones now out. I’ve yet to have the issues I’ve experienced with other devices similar to these. What most excited me about the newest upcoming device, is it is offering a port for added memory! Now, let’s WAIT
!
@LarryD113 , the current/original Onn4k Pro has a USB port….
I remember when the ONN first came out. I purchased two and had to return them both because they started having major issues and they had no Technical Support when I attempted to call I was told the Technical Support is only for the ONN TVs and they gave me a hard time returning them. so I guess my question is do they have any type of Technical Support for their product as of today, I asked in a Walmart store as recent as last week and they told me NO. so I don’t think anybody should be buying them as long as they’re not standing behind their product with any customer support
@patho252, I have one of the original Onn 4k devices ($19.95), and an original Onn 4kPro ($49.95)….both still cranking along with no problems….ok, so you had a bad experience, you are entitled to your opinion, but your statement, in my opinion, is totally without merit….there are many on this site other than me that just love their Onn products….I have, and will, continue to do my own research and make my own decisions and spend my money on whatever products I choose to….
