Are you connecting your onn pro to the internet with wifi or ethernet?
Using a vpn? This will matter too.
There are lots of discussions on TP about the Speed testers and if their results are accurate or at least within an acceptable range.
Depending on which tester you use and if you vpn is on or off will vary the results. Some lots more than others.
Ive decided to not really to pay too much attention to the speed tests. As long as my streaming isnt buffering on links that should be easily viewed then I am ok.
The onn is connected with Wi-Fi. I have Surfshark vpn installed in my router.
I seem to have the problem with buffering every two weeks or so. I unplug the onn for a few minutes and plug it back in, and everything works fine. Then the process is done again in a few weeks. Seems strange to me.
So I am getting a new router delivered tomorrow and when i set it up I plan to use the same Wifi name and password as my currnet router.
Any chance all my devices recognize the name/password and automatically connect? I am hoping there might be something i can do to make the transition as seemless as possible. If its not automatic.
I am not changing isp service I am only getting a personal router. My isp will stay the same, right? So maybe theres a chance.
Before you askā¦
TP Link AXE5400 (Archer AXE75).
Hoping its better than the basic spectrum router i have. Have upgraded to 500mps and want to make sure i get what i pay.
Thankfully TP has an app that should make the setup easy but i just dont know about the connections. Between devices, tablets, laptop, smart tv, echos, etc i am hoping for the best.
The setup was pretty easy with the tp link tether app.
Unfortunately for some reason this router isnāt reaching the speeds or range i thought it should.
I have a tried a few trouble shooting methods but i cant get the results i was expecting. I was actually getting better results on the basic spectrum router (sac2v1k).
I split 2.4 and 5 ghz bands. Reset the router. Moved the antenna around. Optimized some devices on the TP app. But still nothing changed.
My Nvidia Pro is only 120 Mbps (2 rooms away) without a vpn on a 500mbps plan. Yes its enough to stream but not worth paying $ for a router. Signal strength seems ok too.
Saw something from TP link about Cloning the MAC address of the router. Saying this would have the new router use the old routers service. Or something like that.
Anyone know if this is a smart solution? can i go back to the old router if this doesnt workout?
I saw some videos saying to copy the PC mac address but tp link said copy the router MAC address. Is it the same thing?
I use the Netgear Orbi RSB850 router. Itās a mesh router but the base router should cover about 1500 sq ft. I have a 3900 sq ft house so i added two satellites. With a 1 gig Spectrum line into the house, I can consistently get 750-850 mbps wifi anywhere in the house and 200+ mbps in the garage and a shed that is about 30 feet from the main house. I steam with SurfShark VPN with firesticks and KM2s and rarely have buffering (like less than twice a month on average). New RBS850 routers are pricey but you can find them used on ebay for about $100. Well worth the investment for me.
I have been going back and forth between routers to see the differences. I do at times hey netter sognal on the TP Link but when traffic isnhigh the signal strength and mps drop a lot.
Well i left the new router alone and it seems to be working much better. It was either my ISP having issues or it took some time for the Router to settle in.
The best thing i did was install the vpn directly to my router. My speeds have never been this good on my Onn Pro and regular Onn 4k. Getting well over 100mps on both and NVIDIA still going strong as well.
It was super easy because of rthe TP Link Tether app. It is set up to work with Nord, IPVanish, Surfshark and Pure VPN.
I already have IPV and just had to log in and select what devices I wanted to use the VPN. So i really didnt install it I just activated it.
I am also trying out Proton VPN but I wasnt sure how to set it up since it wasnt a pre-approved brand. I may try to figure it out before i cancel the service in case i subscribe to them again.
Thanks @Miki. I saw that and the āTech Savvy onlyā user warning got me a little concerned. No need for me to risk messing up the router if my speeds are going great with IPV. Especially since my device isnāt listed.
The set up was so easy with IPV. Literally just sign into my account and select your devices. And it was all done in my phone. No need to use my computer.
I will say that the Proton app did give me better results on my devices than IPV app. So if anything goes wrong in the future they are on my list.
Maybe in the future Proton will be installed to my router setup.
I am with you. That experienced user warning make it a no go for me. My bigger issue is using an ISP Supplied modem. I could buy my own but with Proton VPN, I get killer speeds and rare buffering. There is only the wife and I so the connection isnāt stressed. So Iām like you, if what Iāve done, to this point, works, why mess with it? Have a good Sunday my friend.
The VPN Client on TP-Link routers can work with TP-Link VPN servers and most third-party VPN servers, including Surfshark, NordVPN, Mullvad VPN, ProtonVPN, ExpressVPN, PrivateTunnel, OVPN.com, and PIA.
Going from a Netgear nighthawk ax4200 to something different. Been looking at ASUS a lot. Just thoughti would get some ideas I want to be able to install vpn, gaming, streaming. Not to concerned about money (200-400) ish range, not to concered about wifi 7 either yet.I just want it to be fast and have a lot of coverage
