Ad blockers won’t work with YouTube’s new unskippable ad feature

NewPipe still works fine for playing YouTube videos without ads.

Yeah, I’ve heard of YouTube’s sinister plot. It hasn’t rolled out yet. Curious to see how channel owners use it. Embedding the ad in the video is about the only way they could force ads. I wonder how they will embed the ad within the video.

"With its new unskippable ad feature, YouTube might end up killing ad blockers once and for all. Currently, the video platform is experimenting with server-side ad injection, which means the ads would appear directly in a video’s stream, bypassing ad blockers.

If you use a VPN and set it to a country outside the US it works fine!

keep calm and carry on :+1:

Yeah, if they that I’m afraid there’s no way around it. Just like streaming services that have an ad based subscription service. It’s embedded into the video itself. Someone will come up with an alternative but it’ll prevent most modern methods from blocking ads without subscribing to premium.

When YouTube finally rolls that out. I betcha dimes to donuts there will be a big decrease in tubers and an increase of Rumble users.

Will smart tube be affected by this? Im guessing so but have no idea how the ad blocking works with them.

yep smartube is one of my fav apps. I also watch rumble quite a bit. Their content is really growing.

They will embed the ads within the video itself. Kind of like when a vod has CC in the movie stream. You can’t get rid of it.

yea, my bad. If its embedded ads then we are screwed. Many youtubers also upload to other platforms tho.

Ugh… i so love smarttube for the ad blocking. Praying for someone to figure something out.

The way the article read. Is they will put a bunch of ad before the vid starts. Nor certain about ads during the body of the vid. Also, they mentioned something about ads after the vid, but that doesn’t make sense to me. When the vid id done I ain’t sticking around to watch an ad. lol

Unskippable ads i assume.

Instead of all the gloom and doom let’s wait until it actually happens. For now we are good with Adblock, Adguard etc…….

Lets hope the ads are like a commercial break…Then recording is one fix

I’ll still watch with ST until it becomes unwatchable.
