About the Streaming Devices / Hardware category

recently my Tanggula x5 pro was shut down by dish network and slingtv in a lawsuit what I find strange is simultaneously slingtv box all of a sudden comes out with basically the same box as Tanggula plus from their emails it appears they too are based in Hong Kong my question is this the same company that has changed their name to sell basically the same streaming box for $299? they claim this is their 5th generation series however youtube sellers say its practically new

Now that firestick is blocking side loading, what would be a good option the buy to replace my firestick.

Hi, I like the reviews of the onn 4K plus box from Walmart, does anyone know if it is possible to connect this to a win 11 laptop instead of a tv. I’ve been trawling around here and the web, but I can’t find any mention of anyone doing or trying this.

Any help or guidance would be gratefully appreciated.

Bill

Do you have an HDMI port on your Laptop? Better yet there are portable screens available now that are very compact.

Hi Throttlejockey,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, at the moment I’m limited in the number of responses I can make.

yes I’ve got an hdmi port, I thought about using a monitor screen, but the laptop would be a better option for me as I travel about a bit.

I haven’t bought the ONN yet, I just wanted to see if it would work first, many thanks for answering my query, I’m sure that I’ll get if from here….I think

Best regards

Bill

can you plug a firestick into a tv box

If it has an HDMI port you can

I have set up Android boxes in the past, but never had perfect streaming. For the past year, I have used a firestick and It has been excellent…but it looks like Amazon will restrict it soon. My QUESTION is “What is the fastest/best Android box that streams seamlessly? Thank you for any expert input! Happy New Year!

Fire TV / Firestick and Android TV boxes have come a long way and really just depend on how you plan to use them. Firesticks are great if you want something simple, affordable, and easy to set up. They work well for most streaming apps and IPTV, but storage can be tight, so adding a USB OTG cable + flash drive is a big upgrade if you install a lot of apps. The newer Firestick remotes are solid, especially with voice search, but some people still prefer pairing a Bluetooth keyboard or mini remote for easier typing.

Android TV boxes are better if you want more control and flexibility. Most come with more storage, USB ports built in, and better support for external drives, game controllers, and mouse/keyboard combos. They’re also great for emulators and light gaming. Pairing an Xbox or PlayStation controller works smoothly on most boxes and is perfect for retro games. For accessories, a few things really make a difference:

  • USB flash drive or external SSD for extra storage
  • Bluetooth keyboard or mouse for setup and searches
  • Game controller if you do any gaming or emulation
  • HDMI extender to improve Wi-Fi signal on Firesticks

Overall, Fire TV devices are great for plug-and-play streaming, while Android TV boxes shine if you want expandability and customization. Both can be excellent setups with the right hardware added.
