5 reasons why Linux will overtake Windows and MacOS on the desktop - eventually

I think Lennox is kind of like jailbreaking a computer. You start off with with a computer without operating system and start adding apps, programs to make it work like you wanted to. Kind of like what you guys like to do with launchers. Right now I don’t have the patience to do that or the knowledge, this is when I would want to get on Craigslist and kind of like a guy who sells Kodi with all the app, I want him to sell me Linux with all the apps. He would show me all the different type of home pages, browsers, word apps, acrobat apps, file systems, etc etc to my liking he explained how they work and then turn it over to me. I’m not sure if that’s how it works that’s how I think it works. But I did read somewhere where they don’t use command props anymore, kind of like apps Lennox uses apps true or not? In fact tell me if I’m wrong or not, that’s exactly what Windows is compared to command prompts. A window has all the command information in it you hit the window instead of typing it in yourself.?

The modern Ubuntu distributions and most of their derivatives (Mint is one) do not require much if any CLI entries.
The biggest advantages of Linux machines over Windows are that they run much better on older computers AND updates don’t add much bloat or crash the machine. I switched about 6 years ago because of a bad update on a Windows 10 machine.

Libre office handles word docs well. Afa pdf files, I read and print them out using my machine. I don’t know about creating or modifying pdf files, however.

I will say this. I was the executor of my brother’s estate who lived 220 miles away in another state. I did everything that I could do remotely without issues with my Mint machine.

I tried mint 21 for a few years, still is very complicated to deal with for a windows user, I read some say it doesn’t require much/any command line code BUT about every time I tried to do anything except simple browsing or email, it seemed like it wanted some f@#$ing code, have no idea what code either and the problem for me anyway is the code has to be exact or it won’t work. Anyone who thinks mint is simple should maybe check some of the mint tutorials. Very complicated shyt and I checked many many of them.

Hell I’ll try Droid, as long as its less complicated than mint and not as bloated with 18,000 updates needed weekly like windows, it may just be the solution.

That’s why I’m a droid fanatic. I’m all Android now.

What were you trying to do that requires complicated code?

I would get a lot of an application is attempting to access blah blah that requires a password and just a bunch of hoops to jump thru, which just makes trying to do simple things much more complicated than it needs to be. Windows does have it’s flaws but it spoils people, in that it’s simple to use, no computer science degree needed. NOT saying that windows is better by no means, just easier to use if you are a person who first learned on windows imo.

Do you use droid on a pc or mostly just phones and tablets? From what I read it’s not ideal to try to use on a desktop at the moment, I might have missed something tho.

Guess it’s the nature of the beast, it takes VERY smart people to come up with a reliable secure OS, which linux is, the neat trick that Gates and Allen did was make it easy for the average joe to use, that’s why Gates is a multi-billionaire I suppose.

I only use my phone, tablets and Shield pro anymore.

Ok, I hate to do computing on anything smaller than my 32 inch monitor, specially since my 20/20 is long gone.

I use my 65" Samsung TV. But each to their own.

Lol, I have a big tv but it wears my eyes out looking all over that screen when just doing computer stuff.

I’m a scanner. So I scan the entire screen and find what I need in miliseconds and focus just on that. But ya I get that. I can send to a smaller screen from my phones or tabs. Love the diversity of our choices these days.

Interesting.
I was windows since the mid 90’s (20+ years) and had/have no problems operating with Mint from the get-go.
There are no simple things that require a PW that I ever run into.
At times I do have to authorize updates…which is a HUGE advantage with linux. It’s easy to decline updates which are not relevent to me without them being forced onto my machine.

Been too long to remember every little detail of the annoyances but I’m not the only one who had problems with it.

Congrats on getting me to sign in for the first time in a long time.

This argument is always phrased incorrectly, because while its obvious what your point is, Linux will NEVER overtake Win/MacOS.

Why?

Because, while it may seem like everyone in your orbit is a very competitent computer user, the vast majority of computer users want an OS that just works, without any NEED for customisation bar their choice of wallpaper.

Do petrolheads discuss why in five years time everyone will be installing turbos? Do they even think in ten years time people will be doing their own oil changes?

Linux will never overtake until it is refined to such a point that you would claim its sold its soul.

Yes, same here. I (kinda) got use to it until the wife sat down in front of our pc and started yelling “WTF”! That’s when I knew it wasn’t going to work for us.:call_me_hand:
