Greetings, if I may add my 2 cents, if you are happy with your current vpn, keep it! Sometimes switching to cheaper may not be better because cheaper usually means a service or feature has been omitted. I have private internet access for almost 10 yrs. No where near the cheapest on the block but I know it inside and out and it has never failed me. That’s all I need to have one less worry in the world. As cord cutters we are so ahead of the game compared to others, a couple dollars either way really doesn’t matter, at least to me. Enjoy!
I’m currently using CyberGhost and it works fine.
Just had this. I let it expire, and they kept coming back offering a much lower rate. It was Surfshark. I decided to go another way to check it out. (Proton) …I continue to get rock-bottom offers to return to Surfshark.
I’ve used IPVanish for years , they started changing things around that I didn’t like. I switched to NORDvpn , I’m really happy and it was a few bucks cheaper.
For those of us they need port forwarding, Torguard still offers that option.
I’ve had them problem free for over 2 years. Torguard
Just got a 27 month Nord Black Friday deal. Adios Proton.
An update from me. I did sign up for two more years with SS. I want it mostly for my IPTV on my firestick and it works perfect. On other devices I have some problems. Some websites will not allow me access unless I pause. I also noticed yesterday I could not print. Pausing SS did not work. I had to delete it from my laptop. Maybe if I was more tech savvy there are workarounds but as no one wants to hear I am an old dude!
Not sure but if I remember correctly you have to allow connections for the LAN. That gives access to devices, like the printer, on your local network.
@psblin99….try this in SS….settings –then– VPN settings –then almost all the way down – Invisible on LAN –make sure the button is to the Left / off….
If you go through the directions to cancel Surfshark, it will pop up with a better price to keep it going.
Nord VPN
was with IPvanish for 8 years. Price increase had me looking around and price plus features made me go to Proton.
Proton was good. Recent updates have made a mess of their package. Mail deleting archived mail without my input. VPN server choices now limited to about 12 servers per location and you have no choice for accessing the others. This is based upon their algorithm and for their benefit not yours. More and more of their server addresses getting blocked. Switched to Nord, lost 3 months on Proton but I am sick of their “we’ll tell you what’s best for you and you will like it” attitude. Started with the update that stopped you from choosing which web safety features you could choose and lumped everything under a single setting with no option to set it up the way you want.
Sorry Miki I don’t understand what you mean by 12 servers per location. I’m currently connected to a server in Chicago which has several hundred servers. Same can be said for several locations just in the US. I have been able to connect to many different servers in different locations and haven’t had any blocking issues (except for porn when connected to servers in Texas…LOL). So far Proton has been good to me but it’s only been a few months…testing continues!
You haven’t updated Proton VPN yet. Once you do on your streaming device you will see that those multiple servers will be slimmed down to around 12 servers listed, based upon their algorithm and not any choices you make. Not sure how long it will take to roll it out to all platforms but it’s coming.
I am on version 4.3.5 of Proton…is this the latest version or the version you were on when you saw this happening? This version has a 10/22/2025 date of install.
Mine is way different version on my tab. 5.14.44.0. My P6L Ultimate is 5.14.55.0
No wonder i wasnt seeing any change after updating proton on my atv devices the version you have on your p6l seems to be the straight android version instead of android tv version. I was wondering why mine was still working the same and when you mentioned the version it finally made sense to me. I hope the android tv os version doesn’t end up dropping all the server options in the future but so far still all there on my android tv os devices and i just updated them all. Actually i apologize my atv os version is the same as your p6l version but i still have all the servers. My mistake and i apologize for my ignorance. My android version on my phone is the same also and still have servers but Im sure your right and ill see it roll out to my decices soon
From the email they sent me, this will become the norm as updates roll out.
I have already switched over to NordVPN. NordPass, and NordLocker.
I always get a good deal from IPvanish so that I do not move to Surfshark ![]()
