$28 T95Z Pllus Android 12 TV Box First Impressions & Setup Tutorial

Huge thanks goes out to @Comtech for the Topic that inspired me to put these videos together.

Here’s my first impressions videos for the T95Z Plus Android 12 TV Box that I purchased off Temu for $28.88. Prices fluctuate quite a bit on this website and as of this post, the same box is now selling for $35.59.

This box comes with 128GB internal storage, 4GB RAM, Dual WiFi, Ethernet, up to 8K support, and more.

I also purchased an air mouse remote for $5.98. I despise the IR remotes that come with these generic boxes!

All links referenced in tutorial/review are placed under video.

Important Security Note: It’s been proven that many of these cheap generic boxes have malware built into the system files that’s undetectable by most scanners. The malware supposedly “phones home” for who knows what reasons. The way that I look at this is that my Surfshark VPN is ALWAYS active when using the device so if there is something being “sent” back home it’s going to be encrypted so it can’t be read anyway. Also, regarding these reports of malware, I haven’t heard of any real-life stories on the terrible things that have happened to those who use them. Use these devices at your own risk and I would suggest not using it to access sensitive information through the Internet such as bank accounts, etc.

Complaints About Buying China Boxes Another comment we might see is that I shouldn’t be supporting these China companies. My reply to that is you are probably already using a streaming device that was built in China. Most electronics are manufactured in China.

What are your thoughts about these generic Android boxes? This video brought back a lot of memories as I used to do a lot of reviews for these on our Website. Please let me know below if you would like to see us do more reivews and tutorials for boxes such as this.

Thanks Troy. For what amounts to about $55 cdn for the Box and Air remote it certainly is another inexpensive option and with lots more RAM and Storage than most. How about testing the record function for us and let us know how much space say a 1/2 hr recording takes up and how well it actually records and plays back. Again Thank you for your time.

Nice review Troy. While I mostly use my ONN 4K box now I have 2 of these T95Z Plus Boxes that I purchased about 6 years ago. Never had an issue with either one. Never have to worry about storage either. One of em I kept on for years without ever turning off. No overheating either. I think mine are running Android 7 but not sure what benefits I am missing without using the latest version.

Troy, I am a big fan of Temu and have caught hell from some family and friends. However, Amazon is run by Bezos, who I despise as much as you despise the IR remotes. Between his left wing policies and his imitation Pravda Washington Post, he is the enemy within and much more dangerous than a known enemy.

Unfortunately, on my screen it appears to be almost sold out with only 6 remaining. You can find many other generic boxes on the Temu site by clicking here.

Reading all the negative reviews on Amazon about the lack of reliability on this box I will take a pass on it.

Can also find a lot of these boxes on Amazon. Just make sure the specs are what you want is there are many different specd boxes. Much easier to return as well. Just drop off at your local Whole Foods

Hello @richlibel65 from past experience, I think most of that is because people expect Android TV/Google TV and once they see they can’t install Downloader right out of Google Play they complain. These just take a bit more setup than the other devices. The way that I look at this is if you don’t need extra storage, stick with devices such as Onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box which is certified by Google.

It wasn’t about setup, they were all about box issues. Read the Amazon reviews and tell me then if it was attributive to set up issues. If it was one or two concerns I would have ordered one just for the heck of it, but multiple complaints on getting stuck on boot. One even stated bought 150 of them for clients and has an 80% failure rate.

That’s why we have freedom of choice. Free to believe what ever ya like. So far any members here who have personal hands on experience with this box, seem to be happy with it.

Discontinued in UK app. Pity it sounds like a good buy

You’re right, I have to freedom to my share my own opinion on what I read. Not showing many glowing reviews on this box on the Troypoint Insider. Just saying people should do their research and not just take one sides as the absolute truth. Even though the cost is very cheap to me it’s not worth it for maybe a few weeks/months before it dies.

Sounds like, if I am planning to replace my Firesticks… that maybe the 4k Onn might be the better choice? We do for the moment watch Prime and Netflix. But might be able to move away from them too with the IPTV services. Thank you

Absolutely. As I mentioned everyone is free to read reviews and believe what they want. It’s only smart. Then make your own choice. Freedom of choice is great. Not trying to start any arguments and of course you can share your view as I can, nobody said otherwise. I personally know some here who have had these boxs running for years and I trust their experiences. Even a $300 device can fail at any time.

Troy,
I have been running The T95Z boxes for about 3+ years now. I believe I’m on my second and believe they are excellent. This is what is on our main TV (I have an Nvidia Shield on our 2nd TV). I use Tivimate with SixStarTV and it’s a wonderful setup.
Thank you for your review.

The thing about these boxes is that there are all kinds of different variations. Some have 2GB of RAM, some have smaller/larger storage, etc. I’m looking at some of these on Amazon with 4 star reviews and some like you said have poor reviews. The reviews for this box on the Temu site are great but I’m skeptical of those as who knows how legit they are. I have absolutely no connection with Temu and as @MarkxG recommended, if you are worried about getting a bad box buy from Amazon so you can easily return it.

So far I’ve had this thing going hard for an entire week and there is no overheating and is working just as good as all of my other streaming devices.

Would I strongly suggest these to the entire TROYPOINT community? No. Most people don’t need the extra storage so why not just buy the Onn Box for 20 bucks which is Google certified.

FYI I have 2 of these T95Z Plus Boxes that I bought 5-6 years ago off Amazon and these little suckers still work perfect. I mostly use the ONN 4K Box now because I wanted to try something new but in the rare case I can’t get something off KODI (A one off sports documentary that KODI won’t have) I record on tivimate on the old T95Z Plus box. YMMV but this has been my experience with these boxes
