In this guide, we will provide you with the absolute best Smart TVs of 2025 – including those with built in Google TV & Fire TV. Almost every television set you come across these days has “smart” capabilities that will allow you to install various applications to watch the content you are looking for. The…
If anyone use’s lossless audio in any apps, TVs can’t pass through lossless audio from apps directly installed on the TV to a sound system.
Also check that the TV supports the audio codecs you use eg this years LG TV’s dropped support for DTS audio, so something to take note of.
I just purchased a Panasonic Z85 Oled with the FireTV interface a few weeks ago.
Nice having a tv with a familiar OS built in as it allowed me to ditch my U5 android based box, simplifying functionality for my wife. ![]()

Yes indeed! I love my TCL QM8
I love my Hisense with google tv built in
I love my JVC tv with google tv
Do you need to have a VPN with these new smart tv’s?
I’m not interested in reading about the best TV. What I want to know is the capability of the ‘smart’ part as a replacement for the almost always far superior smart streaming device we are all used to. I don’t think any of these smart TVs are as capable as a Fire Cube, let alone an Nvidia Shield. But, how about some percentage matchups of these smart TVs against those superior streaming devices?
Agreed! Storage is the big issue with me. Apps take a lot of it and it’s not worth paying 1K for a tv that doesn’t have enough storage for the apps that I want to use.
Two things: 1) bigger is not better in my opinion. Unless you have a dedicated home theater room, it seems to me that any tv larger than 65" seems out of place and even the viewing experience seems to degrade after a certain size of tv. 2) seems it is far better to have a stand alone media streaming device. Not only is it usually more powerful, but you can upgrade when you want (part of the hobby).
It would be wise to have a VPN, setup on the TV, if you are using for streaming/torrenting.
If you are not using the TV for streaming then you wouldn’t want to use a VPN on the TV.
I use my TV simply as only a monitor. All of my apps are dedicated to my Shield Pro. So no worries of memory issues.
My hisense has Google Tv, i can get any app on it that i would want to use, it has 32 GB of storage, more than my shield and it is just as fast, if not faster. I have no reason to use an external streaming device with that TV
Just to be sure. Your tv has 32 Gbs of RAM? Can you give us the model name and number please. I’d like to look over the specs and what codecs etc. it handles as well as certs. Thanks.
32GB of Storage sounds plausable, likely 2 or 2.5 GB of Ram.
What model is it? I would love to read up on it’s specs. Thanks.
I have the Hisense 100" 8QG 2025 and a 100" QD7 2023 sitting side by side in the Cave. Where the advertised 32g of storage is 19g useable and is more than adaquate. My Shield Pro 2019 is plugged into the 7 and is superior but the 8 ranks close to it in performance. The 7 is also my computer monitor.
Wow. I have a 65" Samsung and thought that was big. Lol. 100" in a man cave is awesome, but 2 sbs is freakin amazing. Send us a pic with them both running. Do they both have the same source?
Ha, it is the advantage of being old, retired and since a pacemaker to go along with a non-knee, I spend 16 hours a day in the Cave. Good thing is buddies always coming by to watch sports.
Yes to both, uses 500 watts each both on the same Monster surge protector. 1 on ethernet and the other WIFi 6. Bought the 8 to replace a 85 Sony Bravia top of the line that went down after only 3 years but I will replace power module when I get around to it. For the Sony it is a known issue. There is actually a 3rd TV in the Cave but that 1 is a Walmart Samsung 75 60htz used for the security cameras mainly but has a ONN $20 box on it plus antenna. Generally used as RedZone TV during NFL season or a backup college game.
No, like the guys said above, not 32 GB of Ram, it has 32 GB of storage. Ram i have no idea but its plenty fast, it feels just as snappy as my shield and a bit better than the onn 4k Plus. Its a Hisense U75QG
