I recently side loaded the yahoo sports app on my
Fire HD 10 (11th gen 2021) tablet and my firestick
(2nd gen). The app installs properly. I am connected to the internet through my wireless router.
The app opens and then hangs (swirling circle). The
app wants location enabled in settings to load live
events. I have the tablet and firestick location
services turned on and they show my current zip code, but that doesn’t satisfy the app.
I was able to sign into my yahoo acct within the app.
I don’t see anything in the yahoo sports app settings
or in my yahoo account settings that allows any other
input of a location. As a result the app will not
load any live games. Where does the app look for and get a
location from? I’m thinking it’s a settings issue because I have a fire 7 tablet that runs the app just fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
I’m sure someone has dealt with this before and has the answer.
Thank you.
Not sure if this article will give you any new insights but it might be worth a look. From the little I read even if your location service isn’t enabled on your device or app Yahoo will pull device location from your IP address.
Wouldn’t a VPN mask his true IP address? Maybe by selecting a VPN server in the location of the game he wants to watch might solve the problem?
Exactly, that’s my point, as the app can’t use your exact location it will use your IP Address to determine content. Whether that’s your exact IP physical location because you don’t have a VPN or your “virtual” location because you are using a vpn.
Hello everyone:
Thanks for the responses and info.
On Fire HD 10 tablet I have resolved the issue by installing the “Fake GPS” app, allowing mock locations and then just using my local location within the “Fake GPS” app. Yahoo Sports is now working properly on the tablet.
The same original problem still exists on the Firestick (2nd gen). All indications are that my local location zip code and location services are active based on other apps working properly. I am not using a VPN. It’s only the Yahoo Sports app that is looking somewhere else for a location and I’m not sure where that is. I’ll see if I can somehow install and use a mock GPS program on the Firestick. This is all new and challenging for me, so thanks for the input. Hopefully others will benefit when it’s all resolved.
I would appreciate it if you could you post the link to that “Fake GPS” app. Thanks
Google Play website then search "Fake GPS app’’
Thank you @tooner. We always appreciate the valuable input others give. Especially when a great solution to a problem is found. I will have to look into this app as I’d like to know how this app differs from a VPN which gives you an IP address from whatever location the VPN server is located in. Nice job. Thank you.
Have fun and STREAM ON.
Update on Firestick (2nd gen) regarding the “Yahoo Sports” app. I installed the “Fake GPS” app on my Firestick (2nd gen). The “Fake GPS” app installed properly and opens. It then pops up a screen telling me to turn on “mock locations” in “settings” > “developer options”. Unlike the Fire HD 10 Tablet, I can not find anywhere within the Firestick (2nd gen) menus where you can turn on or allow mock locations. There are no settings within the “Fake GPS” app for doing this either.
I rebooted the modem router and uninstalled then reinstalled both the “Yahoo Sports” and “Fake GPS” apps to no avail. “Yahoo Sports” still does not know my location for live streaming.
I don’t think using a VPN would solve this because all of my other location based apps work well as is.
So I continue to be stumped. But I’m not giving up.
Hopefully someone can offer some info regarding this mock location setting?
Thanks again to everyone and Happy New Year !!.
It sounds like you may have your vpn on
