Writers striking, now Hollywood actors are striking

100 million of percentages and or royalties off of one movie goes a long way!

With Hollywood on strike, this should be a good opportunity for independent film makers to take hold if they can produce good quality content. Personally, I think Hollywood writers and actors for the most part are circling the drain from an originality and quality standpoint and that is why movie theatre attendance was dropping in the years before this strike. I also think the golden age for Hollywood and blockbuster movies ended some time ago.

I think AI will eventually replace the actors within these films and maybe even the writers.

That was back in the day when they had 20+ episodes.
Now you’re grateful if you get more than 6

I agree 100%….yes great movie and only a grain of sand in the grand scheme of things.
Ironic how another elite island played a role in the story.

That’s what I like about automotive, motorcycle sports ect. Anything that has an engine in it. They don’t go on strike they do it for the fans. If they did go on strike they wouldn’t eat.

Hollywood is finished. AI will write, create, animate in photo-realistic quality, direct, produce, compose and create a sound-track, edit and print a movie soon. Judging Hollywood on its past two decades of movies it’ll be a breath of fresh air considering the uninspiring utter crap they’ve released in that time.

These people are totally selfish. The top tier is paid extremely well and live lavish lifestyles. These types have absolutely NO consideration for the 1,000’s of individuals who work behind the scenes to make these actors successful and uber wealthy.

All the workers, extras, stagehands, etc., will be the first ones who suffer financially and will be the last ones to benefit anything from this strike, if there are any benefits.

These types of narcissistic actors, as their careers are winding down, will use anything and anyone to keep their name relevant.

I am with you on this. There has been no originality out of Hollywood since I was born. Today it is even worse, and I for one have not been to a theatre in years and the only thing out of holly is not good. Truth, it is either a remake or sequel and they really suck. Independents need to step up and take control to get rid of garbage-wood. for all of entertainment’s sake, and besides I am waiting on James, James Wiki 10.

A lot of Hollywood is out of touch with reality.

I am not in the know with this one apparently. I have fear of missing out, so what is James, James Wiki 10?

I put two shows together in order not to say the real name. The first name is a double O # and the second kills over his dog :dog2: lol

One of those GREEDY writers of “Jane the Virgin” was paid residuals for two episodes the staggering amount of $0.01 (One penny) for one episode and the even more exorbitant fee of $0.02 (two cents) for the other. Streaming channels like Netflix don’t consider anything as residual, yet their agreement with the writers is tricky about that calculation.
Movie companies sign contacts with actors based on a percentage of theater gross, then take the movie straight to streaming and owe the actors nothing.
AI pays actors nothing. How good is AI? Watch the first half of the new Indiana Jones and watch a young Harrison Ford battle Nazis.
Hillary Swank won an Oscar and wasn’t paid enough to qualify for SAG’s health insurance.
Writers are forced to work in pods to plan an entire season of shows and then fired and paid day labor for their previous ideas.
There is much more, but I’ll stop.
I may be a Liberal, but you try living on three cents.

Of course Harrison Ford got a bundle for Indiana Jones, my example was to demonstrate how good AI has become

Scarlett Johansson was one of the main first lawsuits to deal with streaming issue. I agree actors make a lot of money. However some actors draw in the crowds and make the money for the studios. I guarantee you the movie Maverick if it did not have Tom Cruise wouldn’t of make half the money.

Oh ok. I understand now. Believe it or not, lol
Thank you for the hints.

I have a brilliant idea if being an actor is so tough…get different job

I read the writers average $100,000/yr plus. Here in Canada 2 retired ppl average $34,000/yr. Hard to empathize with writers or actors when they’re impacting our entertainment that we pay for one way or another.

@teehar Many actors actually do work other jobs. It’s not the physical difficulty but seeking a return on the fruits of mental labor, talent! Whenever I’m feeling brilliant, the mood to write a book to share that brilliance comes over me. That’s terrifying! Writing is hard. Creative writing is a gift.
