Will surfshark start upon device startup

I searched and didn’t find anything close nor did I see anything in Troy’s video, or write-up about Surfshark starting with Firstick/Onn/whatever startup.

Our IPVanish subscription is due to expire Saturday. My wife uses a Firestick 4k Max, and when she turns it on, IPVanish is already connected. It it wasn’t, she wouldn’t have the slightest idea how to get it going. Also, she doesn’t see the need for a VPN. I have a Mecool, and I have to start IPVanish each time I turn the critter on.

So, if I switch to Surfshark, will it automatically connect when she hits the power button on her Firestick? Will I have to set up Surfshark to make it happen? Like I said, I didn’t see anything in Troy’s video.

Thanks,
Bob

Yes it does when you set it to.

Thanks for the pointer. The second time through Troy’s Surfshark video I saw the switch. I’m surprised that he didn’t mention it. This old brain didn’t even see it the first time through, and I don’t have Surfshark installed yet to see it.

Explorer, thank you. It was you that sent the pointer, not Wizzard! If I had noticed the switch when I watched Troy’s video I probably wouldn’t have had to ask the question!

You’re welcome, my friend. After doing a search, if you can’t find the answer, ask all the questions you need, there are a bunch of people here to help.

It has been a few days, but I owe Troy an apology!

On my 3rd time through his video, while I was installing Surfshark, I heard him mention the auto-connect switch. I blame age on my missing it the first two times!

I have auto-connect working for Surfshark on the Fire Stick 4k Max (wifes) and my Mecol KM2.

Yes, it can.

For peace of mind, you could also install a free privacy dot. If she does not see that green then the VPN is not connected. It should not get out to the internet either using the kill switch.

Yes use both kill switch and the Privacy dot or Monitor dot. If kill switch fails at least you will get a flashing red dot to let you know VPN failed. On monitor dot you can set it so you only see a dot when it fails. Never used privacy dot but it likely works the same or similiar.

Yes SS is always on. You can put your device on sleep and as it stays on all night all day. With a kill switch on, it’ll disconnect from the internet anytime something goes wrong and will not reconnect unless you turn on the automatic reconnect. I don’t like to use the automatic reconnect because sometimes I won’t know if it went down. As a personal option I don’t like the DOT.

Just curious why you don’t like the dot? And which one you tried privacy or monitor dot?

It’s irritating to have that thing on my screen! Besides the SS kill switch works very well. And if it didn’t, well the worse going to happen is I get a letter from AT&t copyright infringement!
I don’t remember which one I used.

Anyways @Miki will move this topic to consolidate SS issues.

If you set up Monitor Dot right the red dot only comes on if you lose connection to internet. You can make the flashing green dot invisible. Just extra peace of mind.

My preference is the privacy dot. You have control over all aspects of it so it’s not really intrusive, well for me.
