With vpn off, I still get massive buffering
wifi or direct cable?
I think you should check out my buffering topic and also check out Troy’s guide on buffering as it’s a big topic lots to cover.
Try an ethernet connection. If speed is good then my suspect would be the router, or wifi adapter.
If not, then it could be a bad FS?
I’m with PF. Although it could be wifi interference, modem/router not in line of site, or a bad internal antenna inside the firestick, I would try running an ethernet cable, get an adapter, and plug the stick in. The switch is only 10/100 but that’s tons of speed even with an active vpn. As Dracoo said, there are so many variables. Switch to 5GHz band for example. Please keep us informed as to what you’ve tried.
WiFi connection
I’ve switched to the 5g tab,
Router is right below fs 1 ft distance, laptop on WiFi Same room, 10 ft away , 320+ speeds
Multiple fire sticks in same household, same issues, just set up a 4K one yesterday, same issues
If you are using QOS on the router try turning it off, reboot the router and firestick and see if that brings the stick up to par…
So, ALL of your FS have the same slow speed issue using wifi? If that is the case, then I would look into settings on your FS. Have you always had this issue, or did it just start? Keep in mind each device has its own wifi adapters, and adapters can have issues. I don’t know if a FS can update wifi adapters or not?
Who is your internet provider, and can you do a total reboot of the system?
Maybe try disconnecting your devices from your wifi and then reconnecting the entire wifi setup. It’s just weird that this issue is only with ALL your FS.
Just doing some brainstorming…
Also, make sure your FS are connecting to your home wifi network and not some hotspot.
Ok I know this is probably counter to what many have told you, and I don’t know the technical terms but the router may in fact be too close to the stick. I think @TP-Dracoo would know way more about this than I do. Try relocating it to at least 10 ft away, the higher up the better, and if it’s laid flat try setting it up right and move the antennas around.
I appreciate all the input, the distance element wouldn’t affect the fs in any of the other rooms
Check that your FS are connecting to your home wifi network. Sometimes it may try to connect to an auxiliary network.
Sorry I missed that you had other sticks setup in other rooms. If that’s the case then my suspicion is that there is a setting in the router/modem that is wrong. The probability of 4 firesticks on the same wifi network having slow speeds, especially if only one at a time is being used, are astronomical.
