Docsis 4 standard has been in the works for the last few years, as the impending fiber-coax conduit is coming down the pipe. D4.0 will support that.
For most consumers, most won’t have the capability to see the benefits and able to justify the price point of 4.0 modems.
Unless providers suddenly bumps everyone’s upstream speeds to 4-6 gbps+, the rewards will be limited.
That still doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be cool to have! 
Docsis 3.1 will still be the sweet spot for a while.

Until your area is completely retrofitted with fiber optic cable, 4.0 DOCSYS will not be an option or required for your internet. That could take up to 10 years, more in outlying areas. Besides, 3.1 DOCSYS modems work just fine for streaming and don’t require any advancement. I’ve got up to 600 mbs/30 mbs download/upload speeds and streaming is crystal clear with no issues.
