What does the DNS actually do on your network?

Interesting article I thought I would pass along…

@TXRon I’d LOVE to do this at the router level but I need the “DNS change at router level” for morons version step by agonizing step. We have an EERO modem with our Hotwire condo fiber optic ISP and there are a gazillion settings in the EERO app on my iPhone (including DNS) but I’d be PETRIFIED to change anything without serious expertise.

It is different on routers and ive never heard of yours but on my asus router it can be set under LAN settings, some routers its under advanced etc. However if you route all traffic on the router through a vpn, then most likely you are using the vpn dns.

@TXRon It’s a fancy brand new router, They upped our 100MB to 1GB as part of our fees as it’s included in the absurdly high HOA fees. I get 150MB to 250MB on my speed test with the VPN ON. Still, that’s plenty fast. I was running 75MB or so before the upgrade with 100MB speed.

I have the AM9 plugged into the router via ethernet and run 600 MB w/o the VPN and about 290MB with the VPN on.

TXRon, that is great information. Thank you!
