What Android box for UK TV?

welcome

The reason I asked about an android box is because I bought a Mecool KM6 some years ago while I was in the UK and it would not play ITVX. I asked ITV if they had a list of android boxes that would play ITVX and they said they did not - there were too many.
I tried your URL to access the UK play store from my iPad with Surfshark pointing to a UK server. A search for BBC iPlayer app only gave me the news app so I guess I am doing something wrong.

Using a Roku is an interesting idea but not being able to sideload apps like stremio, streamfire etc is a big drawback for me. But it is cheap enough to have one just to use the UK apps. I guess I would need to set it up either in the UK or fake it to do so in the US, and I always use Surfshark while streaming.
It would be a little messy to use on a daily basis - switching tv inputs between the Roku and the other streaming device, but thank you for the suggestion.

I don’t think an IPTV service is an answer for me. I can get live UK tv channels for news, sports and specific UK events through any number of apps. Major UK tv shows turn up on Stremio very quickly but there are many programs which are available on catch up only, which is where I watch them.
My experience with Kodi catch up was that it was good if you knew what you wanted to watch, but poor if you wanted to look through what was available as there is no brief descrition about any program’s content.

I don’t use Apple TV as you can’t sideload apps to it, which is how I watch most tv - stremio, RB77, streamfire etc

Expatprime.tv gave a ā€˜Not available on your region’ when I tried on my iPad in the US.

I don’t use Apple.tv

You’re actually lucky as that link scans as a Phishing link. Not recommended to go there.

Thanks for these suggestions. I should have mentioned in my post that
I need to sideload other apps like stremio etc and it looks convoluted to do so on Chromecast and I guess Google streamer.
I am not very demanding when it comes to tbe technology. I have a 4k tv but rarely stream anything other than 1080p with file sizes of less than 5gb, and the Firestick 4k and 4kmax work perfectly for me.
Interesting to know that the Shield will play the UK apps ok, but it is way over spec for my 79 year old eyes and ears!
I use the Firesticks because it is easy to change regions to update the apps when necessary and I guess they will continue to work after the OS is discontinued. Over time I guess the apps will stop working but maybe they will last long enough to see me out!

I use a firestick and a IQTWE T95 6K here in the UK
Got the link to iplayer.

Sorry about naming names. Very odd though as I’ve been using that service for probably 10 years in Canada (including last night!)
An interesting and useful dialogue this one…thank you.

Thanks for that suggestion - I’ll look into it

android boxes run on 5V so PSU can be got from anywhere for your local mains supply

Both mine are 12v.

any box should work i would get a vpn with a iptv service or download kodi and install a good build and you will get everything you are looking for

Formuler box is great for everything

I think the OP was after a certified device that can run all certified UK catch up apps.
The latest Formuler devices are not certified and can’t run all the UK catch up apps.
