Well....Fiber my Optic and Call me Speedy!

Cat 8 Cable: The new 2GHz speed limit

Finally, Category 8 is the new spec on the cable block. Also aimed at data centers and requiring high-speed gear, the cables run at 1- or 2GHz and can move up to 40Gbps. They require double-shielding, metal-jacketed connectors and are limited to runs of 100 feet. Ethernet cables: Everything you need to know | Tom's Guide

thanks for the link @Czech - Informative stuff for sure albeit a tad old for tech specs now. It has been proven that you can obtain 10gb speed over old cat5e cable if you have the proper hardware and connectors etc, in place. I needed to upgrade my actual cabling due to it physically breaking down in places. (attics tend to do that with all the hot cold hot cold etc…) Anyway, thanks again for the info, it was a fun and informative read!

Thank you @Reece- There was an issue that 1000 foot length couldn’t be found, I just wanted to point out that 100’ is the maximum length indicated for Cat 8 wire. & I wanted to show my source of info.

I have always wondered about fiber optic and speeds and when I see people with it it’s not the speeds you have. And I wondered if fiber speeds came already equiped on the modem/router but I see now you would have to get extra equipment and outfit your fiber setup to get maximum performance. I thought before that fiber came ready with the full speed. Thanks answered my biggest questions about fiber connection

I decided to go with cat 7 due to the max is 100 meters (328 ft) for that one. Good for up to 10 gigs. It will reach my shop out back & is direct burial rated, but i have “tech OCD” so will put it in a bigger than enough shedule 80 pvc conduit with a nylon pull string for later on down the road stuff.
