Walmart’s next Onn 4K ‘Plus’ streaming device leaks with impressive benchmark

My only question is, why in today’s market is anyone still producing devices with only 2GBs of RAM? Reasonable benchmarks but without at least 4GBs RAM I’m out. Even my Old Shield Pro with 3 GBs RAM is showing occasional glitches with 4K 25GB+ vids.

I agree and i’m perfectly content with my current onn4k which I use when near or at my desk, my google streamer has been regulated to the guest bedroom, Living room big screen has the formuler and my bedroom my ugoos. As google keeps locking down the os I will never purchase another android-tv device and now all I will even think of getting is stock android(ugoos)or similar.

@Miki I understand more RAM is better on a PC but on a streaming box where I’m only watching VOD movies/shows or live TV why is RAM as important? I’ve seen the negative effects of not having sufficient RAM on a PC but NOT on any of my boxes. If you are not gaming or doing anything else

It has shown some issues with my 4K movies that are say 25+GBs in size for me. But it could simply be my Shield Pro is showing it’s age. So with all the research I’ve done there does appear to be a difference in device response and app speeds with more RAM. Now I can’t personally verify that, as I only have the shield as my top device, and nothing else with better specs. I should also mention that I’m looking to “future” proof my device and hopefully get something like the Ugoos SK1 that will last me for say 5 yrs.

@Miki FYI, was curious about the large 4K movie files. Just tested two recent 4K Movies on my ONN 4K Pro using KODI Umbrella Addon. One movie was 4K 63.5 GB the other 4K 72.9 GB. Both played flawlessly

I’ll have to test more out. Maybe it was the HDR 10+ feeds. Have to watch which ones and which sources to be sure. As I mentioned, could just be my aging Shield, but either way I’m looking to future proof and do a bit more with my streamer. I’ll let ya know when I get a streamer with more RAM so I can give my opinion from a point of personal experience and not just what other people say.

if it upscales like the shield for way less money? a couple of my boxes with 2GB Ram stream flawlessly? i think it has alot to do with internet speed and the Ram and cpu not having to work as hard…could be wrong but that’s my experience

The more Ram the better it will play 4k feeds. Anything under 3 will usually struggle.

I’m playing large 4K Files in excess of 60 GB on my ONN 4K Pro flawlessly. Internet speed is more important than RAM if you are only streaming

I wonder if this new device is going to be released right before Christmas? Drum up some sales as it’s not too expensive for gift giving.

I have tons of internet speed with my VPN on. Did a few hours of testing last night. Turned out to be a new source I added into Stremio about 3 weeks back. Now removed and all good. Have a great weekend everyone.

I use 2 ONN4k devices and easily added more storage space on both. They have actually worked flawlessly for the past year. I have Fire TV devices and stilI use one but the ONN has worked best for me.

Hey MarkxG, I often try to watch multiple live MLB & NFL games simultaneously with TiViMate - and have a difficult time preventing one or more of the buffering or freezing. That type of an issue is normally caused by insufficient memory (RAM). Quality streaming (4K, Dolby ATMOS, HDR, etc…) in my opinion operates better when you have sufficient RAM to prevent buffering. Also try to keep in mind that your system’s OS takes a considerable amount of memory itself. Most Smart TV’s (not all) only come with 2-3GB of RAM & running their OS allows very little remaining memory for streaming…, Hope this is helpful to your understanding of the reasoning for additional RAM.

Hey @mrkenjones 100% disagree here. In my experience any buffering is either lack of sufficient internet speed or and more likely from your IPTV provider. I went through more than a few IPTV services until my current provider that is so far underground, invite only and has stopped taking on new subscribers. I am using the ONN 4K Pro with 3GB RAM. I am getting zero buffering and I watch a lot of sports and judge an IPTV service by how well it performs with Live sports. Any buffering you are experiencing is on your end or you are using a provider that overloads it’s servers. Hope you get it worked out

What does it mean by “US and PR compatible only”? Why wouldn’t it work in Canada or any other country?

my bad

Because their onn tv boxes are only sold at Walmarts in the USA.

I recall Miki suggesting, that if you are using the box outside of the US, to set your VPN to pull from a US based server.
