I will look in to that, it wasn’t just the service it was all the apps I tried.
Thank you.
I had exactly the same issue. I had to switch servers on my VPN and that solved the issue for me. Good morning Wiz. Have a buffer free weekend my friend.
Who doesn’t love a good mystery and with that comes musing and more questions, because the person telling the mystery does not do an adequate job of laying out the details in order.
Allow me to attempt to clarify. The box is connected through the ethernet port with a cat5e cable, my laptop is connected the same way. Yes the buffering which is caused by the dropped signal, was seen on the smarters, stremio, syncler, and it was either netflix or paramount apps all while conected to vpn. My phone and the GF’s phone were on wifi and had no issues, the box was the only thing connected to the internet that had an issue.
The first restart that the box did for some reason, the vpn did not connect upon start, speeds were back to normal in the 100 area, I noticed the vpn was off so i connected and speeds were still pretty close the same.
If it happens again, i will turn off the vpn when it restarts and try, if problem still occurs will connect with wifi.
Not sure about the port, I can add to this mystery with, I tried 2 different gig speed ethernet to usb adapters and they gave me the same issue, after a short period of time the signal would be dropped, I would unplug the cable from the adapter and in to the box directly and it worked. I gave up on the adapters and just used the slower port, figuring 100 mbps was sufficient and there was no need to use all the speed I pay xfinity for.
Trying another box, I would not use the Plus version, because of the ethernet adapters needed, but sitting here thinking there is a wired roku box right beside the Onn, so if or when the issue returns I will turn it on and see if it works, now I may be looking at a port issue on the xfinity gateway. I use a wired connection because they are 3 feet from the gateway.
So muse away my friend and with this reply I either greatly clarified things or just muddied the waters even more, no matter, I do appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.
That is something I did not try, different sources, I guess because it as happening with different apps. But will remember this for future problems. Thank you.
I didn’t even switch servers, only the sources in Stremio. Have a great weekend yourself.
I will always switch between sources in Stremio if one is buffering. It’s strange because there are lots of active peers on it yet it still buffers. Some of the smaller less used ones, stream with no incident. I seriously don’t understand why.
Just throwing something out, but since it is summer, I would wonder if over-heating could be considered?
I was using Jiopages to get the motel captive portal to accept my ONN 4k box and motel internet password using it’s mouse pointer. Last time it didn’t seem to work. Someone mentioned manually setting the time and date in the ONN settings and everything should work. Have yet to try it, but it makes sense.
I had a similar issue – it was even having trouble loading the start page. For some reason (probably because it was randomly jumping to the Monitor Dot update page) suspected Monitor Dot. So erased that and got a fresh updated Monitor Dot from the TP Toolbox. At the same time I did a hard restart on the ONN device by unplugging it and waiting 5 minutes to plug it back in. This is in addition to the usual clearing cache(s) from apps. Something seemed to work as it no longer seems to bog down. Not sure when it auto-updated to Android 14 but it did.
I had a Mecool (4/32) device that would get pretty hot. Got a USB powered cooling fan to put under it and it no longer randomly restarted itself. None of my 4 ONNs (2 4k and 2 Pros) get hot, but I still run the USB fan on the main Pro – even though I don’t think heat is a problem for these devices, but who knows what goes on inside that little magic box.
I had a similar occurrence at a motel I was staying at. I called the roll free number listed on the Tv screen which led me to the motel’s video provider. They said their system did not recognize the android Onn box. The rep asked me for my IMEC #, and ten minutes later, I had my streaming system up and running. However, I was not able to have my VPN on all the time. I suspect that was from an overloaded WiFi system. Hope ths helps
If we’re at a motel or hotel, who cares about the VPN, it’s not our personal IP address that can get caught. Are they going to send a letter to that place and then who of your guests, all sharing the same external IP are you going to pin it on.
True Mr. Wiz, but then your mac address is exposed and easily read and that belongs to only one thing on the planet, your streaming device.
That’s good info if you get “desperate”. However, I want an easier process where the rep on the other end of the phone doesn’t say “what”? Like you are speaking Albanian. I think you got lucky that the video provider knew what you were trying to do and then accomodated you. I’d still rather be as anonymous as possible.
Interestingly, while we don’t stay at 5-star hotels like Miki does, the more expensive motels (like Drury Inn) seem to be easier to “crack” than the cheaper motel we stayed in last time where I couldn’t get around the portal defense.
Some of the 5 star motels I have stayed in lately, had TV hung on the wall so tightly, I couldn’t get the cable plugged into HDMI port. And could not cast to set from Android phone.
Sneaky lol. Still there should be no incentive for them to block us from streaming. Maybe they just don’t like people “messing” with their stuff, and then the possibility someone may not hook their cable back up and that might take a visit from a maintenance guy. Seems like denial of a service though…considering how many kids (like us lol) might like to hook up a PS 5 or something.
I can just envision Miki flying his charter into Montreal and his driver picking him up at the private airport and whisking him to the downtown Ritz-Carlton. But I digress.
I completely understand what you are saying. I have stayed in some mainstream motels that actually encourage gaming, and will loan you a terminal for a very reasonable fee, IMHO. I am not a gamer, but my son is, so I get an idea of what goes on in the gamer world.
I don’t recall ever seeing a mac address in a torrent swarm but even it the company did, it’s still coming from the Hotel shared IP and I feel quite confident there is no way they or the junior tech in the MIS department could possibly isolate what room it was coming from nor would there be any reason or reward for it to spend that time that they can’t be held responsible for.
Mac address is the specific identifier of your device. It has nothing to do with the internet. However without a VPN or encryption it can be seen by those with the knowledge how. Not something I ever worry about but thought I would throw that out there. While a MAC address itself doesn’t directly reveal your identity or location, it can be used to track your device and potentially your location. A MAC address, short for Media Access Control address, is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communication within a network segment. It’s like a device’s fingerprint, ensuring that data is sent to the correct device. If you use Analiti, when you open it on the upper left you should see the name of your network and inder thaat is your mac address. A series of 6 sets of two numbers/letters.
